Recommended homestay to stay in Berastagi with a great service by the owner. It feels so homey and comfortable to stay in the house, also located very close to the main road. They also provide guidance for hiking the volcano mountain and other areas. I’d love to come again and stay there!!

We spent 2 nights in the homestay. We asked if we could extend our stay by one night and it was no problem. The next day we had a leisurely breakfast and then went back to bed. At 12 noon we were kicked out of our room because more bookings came in. The owners probably didn't close the booking after we extended our stay. There was no apology either!! Please be sure to ask about the price for tours. We went to the volcano and were charged twice as much as any other operator in the area, even though they said their tour was in the same price range. The volcano tour can be done without a guide. The prices for food were also completely excessive. Toast with avocado for 65Rp. All in all we felt extremely ripped off. The owners are friendly as long as they make money from you.

I don’t know where to begin….should have had at least 3 nights, sadly only two. Loved this place. Loved Betastagi. Smiley and his wife were fantastic hosts. Sort as many transfers etc..out as you can directly with Smiley as he gets a much better price.Smiley led our sunrise tour up the volcano. It was an experience I’ll never forget, he dealt with a grumpy teenager who didn’t feel well unbelievably well…gently encouraging and joking with her! He is a natural story teller, taking you on little journeys of his life even the teenagers were transfixed by….in a digital world this is rare and a pure joy. He takes time to share fantastic places on route. The hot springs afterwards was fabulous.Our room was basic but extremely comfortable - best night sleeps on our journey so far.A massive thank you to our hosts…I was just sad not to be able to do your cooking course as it looked amazing and we would have all loved it. Next time.

All perfect, I can’t say anything bad about this place and the family. Very nice to us, we were supposed to stay for 2 nights and stayed 5. We felt like part of the family and felt like home. Very comfortable bed, incredible breakfast. Smiley took us to the volcano for sunrise, very nice and a must do there. Cecilia is a wonderful person, helped us in everything we needed, basically felt like a cousin to us. I have to totally recommend this place for everyone, backpackers and family

A great stay with Cecilia and Smiley! We felt like home. They are warm and generous hosts. We will remember Cecilia's kindness and her cuisine which was divinely good. If you go to Berastagi .... Smiley is the one you have to do your tours with , even though you may not stay at his place .Done it several times . Great tours , best guides , and Smiley is one of a kind , somebody you wont forget . His beautiful wife cooks lovely food , so try to include a dinner or lunch at his place .Don't hesitate , this is a must do to my opinion .Highly recommended.

The owners were truly the sweetest people on earth! We did the volcano tour with Ismael and that was great. He also has many good tips for other destinations on Sumatra. His wife also helped us very well with a scooter trip and she is also a great cook! We had a delicious breakfast with homemade bread and guacamole and a super tasty fruit salad.Room was also comfortable with a nice bed 👍🏻

Cecilia was a great host! The food she cooked was amazing! The place was very clean. You can meet other fellow travelers here too which is great if you are travelling alone. She has a dog Dodo, he serves as a guard when you go to supermarket (goes with you without asking). She even took us for the hike to Sibayak Volcano, we had our coffee on the volcano while watching sunrise. Views were top. Overall very welcoming family we totally recommend this place! All the best for you and your family Cecilia! ☺️

The accommodation is simple and comfortable in a very authentic backpacker atmosphere.Smiley is a personality and a very experienced guide who will be happy to advise you on the region or accompany you on foot to the volcano or in the jungle.His wife Cecilia's cooking is delicious, everything is homemade and we were even able to help prepare dinner.Both were lovely with our children who felt right at home.One piece of advice: book early because there are only two rooms! And let yourself be carried away by their kindness for an unforgettable stay!

I love this place. Smiley and his wife Cecilia are awesome. If you need help with anything they can and will help you. Cecilia made an awesome breakfast and dinner every day. After a short time you will definitly feel at home.The beds are big and comfortable, everthing is clean and the shower even has warm water.
