After a gruelling journey to get to the island, involving a plane (or 10 hour drive), a taxi and boat, we appareaed to arrive at Paradise. The island is beautiful and the colour of water is turquoise. However, very soon it became clear that paradise was in fact a prison!!! Dani (owner and maniac) gave us zero information upon our arrival and we to discover all the fatal flaws of this resort ourselves.1. RAT INFESTATION. You are guaranteed to be sharing your room with rats. We found rat poo on top of our mosquito nets and a dead rat in our room. We saw rats every day and night. That is one piece of local wildlife you are guaranteed to see.2. YOU ARE COMPLETELY DEPENDENT ON HIM. He cooks very small meals three times a day for 150.000. There are no options to get food anywhere else so bring snacks. You also have no cold drinks. Everyone we spoke to on the island had lost weight during their time there.3. NO WI-FI and no mobile signal apart from very unreliable hotspot (again dependant on Dani). This isn’t a problem for most but we were not told prior to arriving and we were unable to book our onwards travel. If this is the case he needs to be upfront about it.4. Very dirty mattresses and black mouldy pillows, there was an overpowering smell of BO coming from the mattress when sleeping.5. Intimidating owner when confronted about the rats… post the discovery of a dead rat next to our bed (see photo attached) we voiced our upset about this issue. He was not pleased about us telling him how we felt about the situationIn summary if you want a Robinson Crusoe moment on a gorgeous paradise island this is it however heed our warnings and be cautious of Dani the owner and far too friendly rats that reside here.

Remote, paradise, island living at its finest! It is everything what we imagined by a paradise island in the Banyak archipelago: white strand, palm trees, 100 colours of blue ocean, great beach hut between the palm trees, delicious fresh fish, and extremely peaceful. On top of that, Dani is an awesome, helpful host who serves you the best fresh fish meals.Go here, just go, switch of your phone, loose count of days and enjoy.

When it’s fine, it’s fine. But when Dani has bad mood … beware. Due to being alone on the island for a long time, he became wild and unpredictable. He threatened me with a machete (kept behind the bar) because I turned off the light in the restaurant after leaving the place as the last and only guest. The explanation that electricity is expensive was of no use. Normally, he would go to prison for this, but unfortunately it’s the indonesian island far away from civilization, where it’s even difficult to call the emergency. If you wanna be safe, you better choose another island or one of two resorts on the other side of the island.

We spent four nights in Palambak Paradise Resort and it was clearly not enough !Deni received us in one of his 6 bungalows located on a white sand beach. Room and bathroom were clean. During night with slept with wave sounds.Deni is an amazing chef ! Everyday we had tasteful breakfast, lunch and dinner : banana pancakes, curry, fish barbecue, fried fish, fried noodles or rice… Coffee, tea and fresh water are free for customers.Deni is not only a great chef but also a great host : professional, really friendly, always smiling. He organised us a fishing excursion. And when we were bored of reading, enjoying the hammock or just watching the green and blue ocean during hours, it was possible to enjoy snorkelling directly from the sand. Wildlife is still wild there and you could be lucky to see turtles.Deni helped us organised our trip to his resort and our next step. Just ask for his help !We enjoyed our greatest moment in Sumatra, feeling alone in this paradise.Thank you Deni !

Awesome place for swimming, snorkelling, chilling, running…Friendly, funny and very helpful owner. He organised transfer for us for both ways, even to Medan. For normal price like for locals. He took us snorkelling to the nice spots. Bungalows are nice, comfy and clean and there are only 6-7 of them on the long beach so you have your space. Really good food provided 3 times a day + coconuts. We prolonged the stay from planned 3 days to 6. I recommend booking directly with owner. Or just ask locals in Singkil for Deni from Palambak. Easy as that. Thank you Deni!

As stated in the name of the resort- this place is truly a paradise! The host, Deni, is so helpful, funny and always smiling, he also was the chef the whole time we spent there and cooked breakfast, lunch as well as dinner while all of it tasted really good! Drinking water, coffee and tea was also provided the whole time.It is still wild island so there is possibility to see turtles, the snorkeling there was just amazing and if you don ´t feel like doing anything just sitting there and lookin at the bluest sea ever just feels so good!Deni also showed us how to cut a coconut, took us snorkeling and organised transportation from the island for us so if you are wondering where to go in Banyak islands this is definitely the one to choose! Thank you Deni!
