First visit was fine but was asked to settle my entire accomodation bill for my wife, son and I before we’d been there a week due to financial hardship after covid which I paid.Second trip Dave came to my room during afternoon siesta on day 2 to hit me up again for all 3 weeks for the 3 of us because this time Janet had her eye on a new motorbike and money was tight and things were expensive etc. Paid in advance again. Here was what I asked for;To be able to have a cup of coffee before my dawny surf.Never happened. Can you leave me out some hot water in a thermos? No.Can I turn on the power and use the coffee machine myself? No.Dave’s eventual response when he got sick of me asking (admittedly by then I was saying a cup of coffee at dawn was not a ridiculous request and that the new motorbike looked lovely!) was picking up a jar of coffee in the kitchen after telling me again that HE didn’t drink coffee and say “Here, this is coffee isn’t it?” and held. It. Out. To. Me.The boat captains struggled to get the resort early as well and when they did arrive had to have a coffee before they would go down to the boat. On their own motorbikes. You wlll need to hire your own.Interestingly I just got back from a $45 AUD per day homestay in Sumatra with all three meals a day and hot water appeared magically on the upstairs back verandah coffee station in two big thermoses every day well before sunrise for the caffeine addicted surfer. When I organised the boat there the smiley toothless captain would be there at the agreed time with ciggy in mouth and coffee in hand. If I didn’t have my coffee in hand he’d check to make sure I didn’t want to pop back up the house and grab one. So the guy getting 5 bucks a day to drive a boat gave more of a damn than the Lualemba couple with a flash Land Cruiser and a new bike.Janet doesn’t talk to the staff she yells at them. Having spent a lot of time hanging with the locals during a flat spell I can say more than one person told me Janet has a reputation for being cranky. The gardens and the pool are gorgeous. The peace however is often shattered by the screaming landlady and God help you if you ask for something radical like early coffee.Plenty of other places with better attitudes in lower price brackets and higher.

First time in Rote and thanks to Dave and Jenet had an absolute belter of a time! Lush gardens and great food made it a pleasure to stay, and Dave is happy to share any and all knowledge of what to do on the island, when to surf, where to surf etc. Frothing to go back and would recommend to anyone.

Home away from home. Great times here Dave and Jenet run a good resort in a private and quiet location. Bungalows are cleaned every day and the staff are ready to help. Food is excellent you just need to come and experience for yourself.

I spent two weeks at Lualemba and had a really fantastic time. Set in a quiet area with a beautiful garden and lots of trees, it's a very relaxing place to chill out, especially by the custom pool with a natural 'rock pool' vibe about it.The owners Dave and Janet made me feel right at home and did everything they could to make sure I had a good time. All the staff were so friendly and great too.Food was superb and varied, with dinner always feeling like a real treat.I think it's extremely good value considering you get a really comfortable ensuite bungalow, 3 meals, and unlimited access to the surf with their boat.Special shout out to Marco and Kun who took me surfing everyday with such enthusiasm and great attitude. You guys are awesome!

Dave is the best. If want to be looked after by a genuine, absolute all round nice guy then this is the place for you. Dave is a genius when it comes to thinking of all the little touches that make a surf camp awesome. He really has made the place beautiful and sustainability plus as it was built using all local materials. We have stayed in many different surf accommodations during 10-15 years of trips to Indonesia and this is by far our favourite. The rooms are huge, there is a beautiful little plunge pool, and the food is incredible. The best part for us is the boats that are included out to the breaks. They wait while you surf and you won't be left behind! Don't be persuaded to stay on the beach front, it is quieter, and cooler back from the beach and you can be at the beach in 2 mins anyway if you want.
