We stayed at the Sebali resort for 3 nights mid August. We were picked up from the airport very late at night (11pm) by Soni, a representative from the hotel who was so kind and welcoming. We had subsequent trips with Soni and it was a pleasure being driven by him - thank you Soni! The staff at the Sebali are lovely and we can not fault the service. We so badly wanted to love this hotel. We had been looking forward to it for a long time and were blown away by the photos. Our expectations given the price point, photos and reviews were that we were going to a luxury resort. This hotel is NOT a luxury resort. It’s not even close. When we first pulled up to the resort our hearts sank. We actually thought we had arrived at the wrong hotel. The lobby is just an outdoor area that is not particularly attractive or welcoming. The whole hotel is old, tired, shabby and not at all how it is advertised. It is very easy to make this kind of landscape look attractive in photos, however we feel completely misled. We visited a resort 15 minutes away for a spa treatment (K club), that was stunning and beautifully maintained in comparison. The ‘restaurant’ is small, shabby, run down, tables are sticky, there is moss growing over everything, grime, large ants EVERYWHERE (we are personally not fussed by ants, bugs etc - we’re in the jungle after all, however there could be preventative measures taken to make sure they are not directly next to tables in the restaurant), there are hundreds of them crawling along the banister that goes around the restaurant, with tables placed against it. The food is mediocre - breakfast for example, random pieces of stale, cold ‘toast’ are presented in a basket as a starter. There is absolutely no atmosphere at all, no matter what time of day. The waiters were lovely, and once again, it is not the staff that are the problem here - they have been wonderful. We had a nice experience in the spa. Though the exterior is under construction and looks a mess, once inside the experience was great. We had a spa package and it was so tranquil listening to a waterfall whilst receiving a massage treatment. However, I also had a pedicure, and the staff member had absolutely no idea what she was doing and I was presented with a selection of 6 or 7 random, very old nail varnishes which I found quite comical and was happy to overlook. However the pedicure itself was appalling and I left looking worse than when I arrived. This is a service that needs reviewing - my nails are completely smudged, not well applied and look an absolute mess. My expectations were low anyway, but I at least expected a neat application. The doors in the rooms need to be reviewed. We didn’t particularly have any issue with bugs, but I have read that this has been an issue for previous guests and I can see why - there are big gaps where doors are not appropriately sealed which means critters can have access to the room.We had a room with a private pool. The pool was absolutely pointless as the water was freezing - at this price point it really should be at least moderately heated. We were unable to use it because it was so cold and unpleasant. We used the main pool jacuzzi on one morning, however on other mornings, guests were having a private floating breakfast in there (probably because their private pools were too cold to do it in), which meant we were unable to use it. I think this is a bit of a problem as the jacuzzi was literally the only usable ‘pool area’ in the entire resort so it’s unfair that guests are seemingly able to book this out. The resort is not close to anything, which wouldn’t be a problem if there were lots of things to do here, however this is not the case, there is absolutely nothing to do.Our room was located towards the bottom end of the resort, which meant tackling quite steep stairs to go up to the restaurant or ‘lobby’ - this wasn’t so bad for us (though pretty tiring by the time you reach the top), however, anybody that struggles with stairs would find this incredibly difficult. All in all, an average stay.
