This is one of those 'old dame' hotels which often are either a great experience or a total miss, Songphanburi was one of the few that was both good and bad.Let's start with the good:We stayed 3 nights in a standard room, which was big, had a decent mattress, and besides some weird stains on the bathroom walls it was reasonably clean. The staff was friendly and at spoke some basic English. There's plenty of parking, some covered, and the location is off the main road – which we hoped would eliminate street noise (well, it didn't really – read more about that bellow). The room seems to have received a few upgrades, such as new floor tiles and a flat screen TV.Our room rate on Agoda (<700B) included breakfast, and frankly speaking was a very good value for the overall product. Now the lows, and reasons for this 3 star review. We woke up every morning from the engine noise of tour buses that parked behind the hotel where the standard rooms are located. Every single morning the coaches started and revved their noisy engines between 7am and 7:30am, and then let them idle for as long as 1 hour, before finally driving off.The noise from the tour buses’ diesel engines permeated our room, as if we were standing right next to them. (Thai tour buses are generally much older and louder compared to those in the West.)The AC thermostat in our room was not working properly, it had only two settings, on/off. We had to get up several times during the night to turn on/off the aircon, as it got either too stuffy or very cold. The shower only supplied hot water for parts of the time… or maybe we didn't run it long enough for the pipes to flush out the cold water first… but it was still cold after 5 minutes.Wifi was a roller coaster ride, although the signal strength was ok, the speed was often on par with old-fashioned dial-up internet. A few times the speed would burst to ok levels for a few minutes while, before going back to super slow. I had to use my mobile as hotspot to get usable internet speeds.Breakfast was included in our rate and there was something weird about the experience, as it exuded a sense of lovelessness in many aspects: the food selection was quite ok, but all items were cold and appeared to lack care in preparation, presentation was so-so, and some stations looked rather messy, especially the cereal dispensers. The employees in the breakfast looked demotivated and didn't appear to see the areas that needed their attention. Tables were left uncleared, napkins not replaced, the cutlery basked ran out of forks, etc. etc.One highlight of the breakfast was the salad bar with several choices of salad sauces. And there was a bowl of fresh yoghurt (no sweetened) that was great to mix with the fresh fruit salad.if the F&B Manager would pay a bit more attention to detail and staff motivation, this breakfast buffet could easily move from "meh" to "wow"BTW: we looked at a deluxe room before making a booking, and decided for a standard room instead, mostly because the deluxe room floor was covered by a very old looking carpet that didn't seem very clean. The standard rooms have tile floors which looked a lot more hygienic. We would consider to return, but only if we can get a room that's not facing the parking lot and has proper working AC controls.

Lovely Grand hotel. Staff, facilities, restaurant and breakfast were all very good. The rooms are a little dated and need refreshing. Had an issue with the key fob and circuit breaker. Fixed within minutes by the engineer. Located near to the Train Station with several cafe/bars/7-11/food stalls nearby but over the river from the town centre.

It is a large hotel, clean rooms, a swimming pool and breakfast included. There are quite a few disadvantages. There was no one to dry my hair in the room, there was no kettle. The air conditioner cannot adjust the temperature. The blankets are very thin. The telephone in the room is not good. The service of the staff is very good. Prices are in the hundreds. Parking is sufficient.

Big hotel, good location, but the room is very old. There is a bathtub, but the bathtub is very slippery, secretly dangerous. Entering and finding the light in front of the door on and off. Call a technician to repair it. At night, the bedside light blinks again. Secretly haunted as well. Good view. The good thing about this place is that there is a swimming pool for children to play in.

Mother's Day night stayThe rooms are according to general 3-star hotel standards. The rooms are old according to the age of the building, but I focus on sleeping to continue moving forward. Fully furnished, hot water is fast, breakfast is generally good and full. Got it for 820 baht including breakfast. There is a swimming pool in the Value for money I think it's worth it.

The room is old but clean and looks good for the price of 650 baht. The room with air conditioner cannot adjust the temperature, so you have to endure a cold sleep. The room was not soundproof.
