convenient location to catch the slow boat the next morning. Terrible accommodation, but the evening meal was more than good. Friendly staff, cold beer. First day in laos and we had already met the famous roosters who suffer from permanent jet lag.

Very likely you come to Houay Xay if you either want to travel to Thailand or do a Mekong boat tour. Houayxai Riverside Hotel is then a very good place to stay overnight. We had a deluxe room with river view which is amazing to visit the sunset over Mekong river. The room was clean and well equipped.
