This is a tough one: On one hand, this is a lovely place to stay and the descriptions are all accurate. On the other hand, we kept wondering whether we should have stayed elsewhere. Simply put: we questioned the value for money.As stated, the hanok is traditionally appointed, spotless, provides excellent service and breakfast, as well as is in a good location for exploring the Bukchon area, the palace, as well as Insa-dong.However, it came at a price tag only marginally below the Park Hyatt in Gangnam and above some other 5 star hotels in Seoul. And for that money, we felt that the bathroom should have been a lot more spacious and taller, the mattresses less worn out, more modern amenities provided (USB outlets, dimmers, master switches near the bed), and more services included (complementary full mini bar, walking tours, etc). Our experience felt a bit like glamping at a considerable cost.Bottom line, you can have a great traditional Korean experience in a very convenient location here. But you’re paying $100+ just for that. And in our mind, it’s simply not worth it. You’d be better off staying at a nicer hotel and explore the traditional life through the many tea houses and open galleries in the area.

The Hanok is superb!We are directly into Korean culture, with this traditional house. The food is incredibly good, it’s definitely worth trying at least once in your life and especially if you come to Seoul! The architecture is superb, and the welcome from the hosts is brilliant. They are really nice and don't hesitate to communicate if we haven't understood the information clearly! It is also well located too, not far from the palaces which are also worth the detour! Unfortunately, I was not able to enjoy the sauna session due to my fault, being too caught up in the visit to Seoul that I didn't see the time pass...! I recommend it if you pass through Seoul!

Historical place. unique architecture, absolutely suitable room with a soft mattress and pillows. The food is fantastic. We had also a complimentary Korean costumes to wear. We are highly recommending to stay in this place to perceive the Korean culture. The best place to stay.

Host was very responsive and clear instructions were provided for check in. We were actually able to check in sooner than the check in time and leave our luggage, which was very helpful. The room was clean and was stocked with basic amenities, including bottles of water. Bathroom was also clean and had a bidet. There was also an AC unit which worked well. Booking comes with complimentary breakfast - we had the Korean breakfast and it was delicious. It is a 10 min walk to the line 3 Anguk Station and a 15 min walk to Gyeongbokgung Palace, with ample restaurants and shops nearby. Overall, a well kept place in Seoul and highly recommend Rakkojae to those who wish to experience a modern hanok stay.

A friend of mine had a wedding party here so I stopped by and it was a small and pretty space. And this is also where Jeon Hyun-moo stayed when he stayed at a hanok hotel in Nahonsan Mountain.

I stayed there a few winters ago. I left Japan feeling anxious because I had a bit of a cold, but I felt completely refreshed after having sangyetang for dinner! The mackerel and abalone porridge from Jeju Island for breakfast were delicious.The room was so clean that it didn't feel like a historic old mansion, the ondol was warm, and the staff who took care of us spoke fluent Japanese and were kind and polite.I am very happy that I was able to wear a jeogori. This is an inn I would definitely like to stay at again.

I really liked the friendly treatment that wasn't excessive and the careful management that wasn't obvious. The jjimjilbang service was great, especially for my group who were tired. I would like to visit again if I get the chance.

It was the very harmonic place ever where the modern and Korean traditional architecture were coexist. City-view was outstanding and the facilities were clean. There were many tourist spots for foreigners nearby. I was very pleased with this place.

Lovely experience! From moment we stepped in, we were awed by the architecture, landscape and tranquility. Super good location in middle of Insa-dong. Short walk to bus stops, shops, cafes, museums, palaces, etc.Can borrow hanbok from them to take photos around property. We had loads of fun doing that.The sauna is also fantastic on a cold day or to ease our tired legs.Breakfast was great! We had Korean traditional for the 3 days we were there. It was delectable.Floor was nicely heated and room was nice and warm.We will definitely come back when we are in Seoul next time.We stayed at both dongdaemun and insadong on this trip and tho both have merits, we definitely liked insadong better.

We had a great experience staying at this hanok. Beautiful surroundings, very calming experience and super pretty room. They have complimentary use of a sauna which was great and traditional breakfast.We couldn't make that as we had a very early flight but our hosts made us great sandwiches to take with us. The hosts were English speaking, were extremely friendly and put us at ease, helped us with taxi booking to the airport and was a pleasure chatting to! :)Thank you!!
