We stayed at this private Hanok (traditional Korean home) as a family of four (myself, my parents and my husband) for a 4 night stay as our base camp for Seorak mountain, Yang Yang and Sokcho, and I can’t recommend it enough. The Hanok is owned by a very warm-hearted married couple. It was built by the husband, a carpenter and the interior is decorated by the wife. All of the details that went into the architectural design, as well as subtle touches with embroidery were all breathtaking. We loved that we got the full traditional Hanok experience with the Ondol room where the floor is heated in the old-fashioned way with a fireplace (and you sleep on the floor, tatami-Style) but that there was also another room with a bed for those who may not be familiar with sleeping on the floor Asian style. The location is close to many thing that we wanted to check out (about a 30 min or less drive to Seorak mountain and Sokcho). Also nearby are a bunch of onsens (we went to Chuksan Hyuyangchon after our hikes to loosen up our muscles after a long day and loved it). I could go on and on about all the different reasons why we loved our stay, but I think what really made our trip special is the extraordinary hospitality and warmth of the host couple, who really went out of their way (without being overbearing) to make sure we had the best time. I would 1000% visit again and recommend to all my friends!
