Abdi Homestay

We had a wonderful stay there. Abdi and his family are such lovely people. Abdi speaks perfect English, and other family members too. They were very helpful with planning our stay there.

Perfect location in Harau Valley, just under a waterfall. Rooms are nice and well maintained. Good food and nice cooking-class. The best of all is the atmosphere. Feels like family!

Simply cool, the most beautiful accommodation in Harau, food close to nature is freshly prepared by the host's sister. Any questions or problems solved immediately and always with a smile. We will definitely come back

Everything was great!!!

Best place, best accommodation we stayed in our month in West Sumatra. Most stunning location with the amazing high cliff and waterfall in the backdrop and super green rice paddies in the front. Beautiful garden with fish pond and spacious, clean huts with good beds.The siblings Yoga and Noni run this place perfectly. Yoga was very welcoming, let us choose our room, provided a fan on request and offered help in any kind, like for transport, information etc.His sister Noni provided excellent dinners for a super good price.Great value for the money. We loved our week there and could have stayed longer. We definitely would come back. Best place and super quiet area of the Harau Valley.

The right place to stay.... In front there is a fish pond and rice fields, behind there is a waterfall....

I had high expectations of this place but it was quite a dissapoinment.Abdi's Homestay is located in a very quiet and beautiful part of the Harau Valley. That was the only good part.I do have to say 'props to the lady in the kitchen', the food was tasty!The bungalow I stayed in was very badly maintained. It had a hole in the floor, termites were eating the wood leaving crumbs at the entrance. The mosquitonet, probably 10 years old, had more than 50 holes in it, all repaired but it looked like a disaster. The bed headstand had a hole in it.The bathroomdoor couldn't be locked as the lock was broken so had to use the small table to keep it closed.Several things in the bathroom were broken like the wooden peg.There were some animals (mice or rats) in and around the bungalow gnawing the wood during the night and early morning.The owner Abdi was usually there in the evening around dinnertime to talk for a few minutes, making some jokes and promoting his tour by motorbike. When I was there, I didn't get any information about the Harau Valley but only that this tour with motorbike is a must do because you will get to see local life, visit a waterfall and see many nice things. He was very pushy about doing this tour while at the same time being very vague about it. I didn't get a proper explanation of what we were going to see and other details. I had to ask other guests what Abdi explained them because otherwise I would only know the next day at breakfast when they would leave, leaving me without any time to decide.The price of his tour is 350.000 IDR (€21), which I found very expensive. The other guests told me the rental of the motorbike is included but Abdi mentioned I could go on the back of his motorbike, also because he thought it was better because people might not have enough experience riding a motorbike and to avoid getting an accident. Why not ask your guests first about their experience and why would I pay the full price if I don't even have my own motorbike?!It's a pity the tour by motorbike is not even in the Harau Valley, but in villages at least 2-3 hours away. What's the use of coming to the Harau Valley and go exploring far outside of the Valley?!And if he's asking €21 per person per tour, which is A LOT of money for Indonesian standards, is it that difficult to afford a new mosquitonet and fix the lock of the bathroom door of the bungalows?!Also the road to the homestay is full of trash. It would be nice if this was also maintained as guests walk/pass there everyday.

Scenic location. Very secluded. The view of the waterfall is breathtakingly beautiful.

The most beautiful Homestay I've been to. The setting took my breath away really. The huts are directly under this waterfall, it's amazing. The hut was very comfortable and big and even had a hammok on the terrace. The dinner was very good! I'm so glad I could stay there for 2 nights. Could have stayed for a week.
