A Hostel decorated in the traditional Japanese style. 7' walk from the train and bus station. We stayed one night and half a day, during which it just rained. So we took the opportunity to rest. “Taco” is a kind and helpful person. It is a recommended place.

Taku-san the owner very nice and helpful. When we came, he gave us a map and magazine about takayama. Where to go, where to eat. At evening when my sister and i want to go to kurokeno yamato and asking direction he offered to drive us. We’re very touched by his kindness. The room is very warm, bathroom and toilet very clean. Heater in the kitchen is on 24 hours. Thank you so much take-san. We’re really enjoyed stay in your hostel. Hope i can comeback again.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Fish in a River Hostel in Takayama, and it was an outstanding experience. The owner, Take-San, was incredibly lovely and hospitable, going out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. He provided us with fantastic local recommendations, which made our trip even more memorable. The decor of the hostel is charmingly mid-century, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The beds were super comfy, and we loved waking up to the beautiful little garden outlook. It was such a peaceful and relaxing environment. We definitely plan on spending more time here on our next visit to Takayama. If you're looking for a warm and welcoming place to stay with great amenities, Fish in a River Hostel is an excellent choice.

Definitely one of my favorite hotel stay so far!PROS:-a taste of Japanese local residence in a quiet neighborhood-local hospitality from Taku, best host ever!-experience in a Japanese house-complete kitchen amenities, so you can cook and make coffee or food for yourself-nice little garden where you can soak in the fresh airCONS:-It's a 7-8 min walk away from the center, didn't bother me much-I went mid-November and because I'm a tropical girl, going out of my room to the kitchen/common area was really cold for me at night. Dont worry, Taku will lend you slippersAs a solo traveler, Taku tried his best to entertain and make me feel welcome. I was the only guest that time since the other room was still under renovation. He prepared a map with recommendations and you can ask him about other spots you want to see around Takayama!
