Spacious room ~ The food is super delicious and nutritious, comparable to Michelin. It is a very high-end experience. There are two bathrooms that can be used at any time when no one is using them (before 10 pm and until check-out at 6 am). The room has fragrant wood The smell is comfortable and the bed is very big and comfortable. The hosts are also very kind and full of smiles. In the morning, our kind father even helped us take pictures at the door. When we were discussing how to get to the observatory, my father offered to drive us there. This is the place. This is my favorite place and I can feel the importance of being at home~ The people, accommodation, and service at Chengshan Hall are all great. I would like to come here again when it snows in the future~

Shiroyamakan was the highlight of our Japan trip. It's located right next to the bus station so it's very easy to find. The building is beautiful -- it's almost 150 years old, but it was recently renovated. The family is wonderful and kind, and the food was amazing -- all fresh, local ingredients. I hope to stay longer next time!

If you want to feel Japanese for a day you absolutely must sleep in this ryokan. We stayed in a room with a private bathroom but there are also rooms with a shared bathroom. …

It is one of the experiences that has most marked my first trip to Japan. It is a journey through all the senses. I absolutely recommend considering a stay with Shiroyamakan's family. Without a doubt, me and my partner have promised to return.

An incredible experience. From the structure, very convenient to the bus and the center, to the hospitality (free tour), to the structure (room with very large windows on the ground floor, onsen), to the cuisine …

Some of the best Japanese accommodation we have ever experienced. Staying at Shiroyamakan will turn your trip to Shirakawa-Go into one of the most memorable trips of your life.Shiroyamakan is a family ran Ryokan that goes back over 4 generations. Recently they just completed brand new renovations on the building, including adding an on site onsen. No doubt it was a risk to perform the upgrades, but it looks to be a decision that is already paying off well and will set up the location to stand for generations to come. The Ryokan is located pretty much directly across the road from where the bus will drop you off. Everything in Shirakawa-Go is comfortably within walking distance from this location. The hospitality is as good as you will find anywhere in the world. As part of your trip, you can reserve a private car trip for free with the owner to take you around to some key locations through Shirakawa-Go, complete with an English audio tape to explain the key locations as you go.The dinner experience is another highlight. Previously dinner was served in your own room privately, however, as part of the new renovations they have opened up a huge dining hall downstairs where you now eat instead. According to the owner, this is to try and encourage meeting up with other groups staying in the Ryokan and have an opportunity to talk with each other about your experiences in Japan. The meals on offer were exceptional, all sourced with local produce and ingredients you can find through Shirakawa-Go. One of the dishes we had was a River Fugu, which needs to be prepared with the utmost care and shows the caliber of the chefs working here. After having stayed behind after dinner to chat to some of the other guests staying in the Ryokan, the owner was very happy with this and even served us some exclusive sake that is unique to the Shirakawa-Go area. As he explained to us, he wants their guests to be able to make connections with each other as part of the experience. If you stay here I would recommend doing the same. The rooms themselves were very comfortable and had nice views of the Shirakawa-Go area. Our room had a toilet and bathroom as well. The newly added downstairs onsen is also not to be missed as part of your experience.Breakfast in the morning was a typical Japanese style and a good start to the day. When checking out from the Ryokan the family will come and see you off and thank you for your time staying there. Most groups visiting Shirakawa-Go will usually just come by bus for a day trip and leave the same day, but I would strongly suggest staying the night at Shiroyamakan instead. Not only will you get the chance to avoid crowds of people early in the morning before the buses come and not be pressured to need to catch an afternoon bus back, but you will also get to experience the incredible Shiroyamakan hospitality. Cannot recommend them more highly. We will never forget the experience.
