I want to share my impressions about this hotel. We were here in 2023. This is a piece of heaven. Insanely beautiful place! Nature, peace and tranquility! How happy we were that we visited West Sumatra. The owner of the Rakai hotel is a wonderful person. He is in love with his region and spoke a lot about the history and beauty of Indonesia. We will definitely come back here! Thank you, Rakai!P.S. I am adding to my review. We finally returned to this magnificent place in 2024. It was a whole week of an unforgettable vacation. The local reef, food and beach are still as good!One of the best places in Sumatra where you can live like on a desert island and feel like Robinson. Silence, tranquility, peace. Food will be brought to you by boat, always fresh three times a day.

This establishment is absolutely to be avoided.Our son lost his life there on May 22. Villagers at the port say there is a death every year.No security, remote location, totally incompetent manager. Dilapidated housing.

Absolutely avoid! A tree fell on our cabin, taking the life of my twin before my eyes on May 22, 2024. The owner kept our belongings and also asked for money to be reimbursed for the arrival of a single boat and a chainsaw. He is dishonest and the photos absolutely no longer look like they were supposed to! Go somewhere else!

We’ve had an amazing stay at Sumatra Ecolodge! It is obviously no luxury ( no hot water, almost no reception, no GENERATORS), but in exchange you get the pure relaxing experience in the middle of nowhere, where you can spend your time just sitting on a beach watching turtles taking a breath on the water surface. I wish we could spend a couple more days. Rakai is a great host and a person to talk to.

By booking here, you know that you are coming for the tranquility of the place and its ecological side: living with the minimum while limiting your impact on nature. There is everything you need to have a good time: a room in a cabin with a working toilet and shower. A comfortable mattress with mosquito net.Meals are delivered by boat, you must order in advance. Water is available for self-service. You can charge your electronic equipment as needed.We had constructive discussions with the owner and were also very well received by the boat driver.Snorkeling is superb with many turtles easily visible at high tide and rather preserved marine fauna and flora. You can also walk on the beach. Very pleasant moment of disconnection 1 hour by car and 20 minutes by boat from the stifling city of Padang.The weather can be very changeable depending on the period, adapt accordingly.Follow the advice given by the owner to reach this place.

We spent 3 amazing days at Sumatra Eco lodge. The location is so beautiful and lonely. Just we two, the owner, behind the bungalows the dschungel and in front the sea. The owner is very friendyl and his Englisch is very good (not often at Sumatra), so that we learned a lot about Indonasion politic and history.The bungalow was big and nice too. We never had so much storage compoundments in any room being 1 month at Sumatra. Also the food was delicious. The owner prepared on request vegan pancakes for us. The food which is coming by boat was one of the best vegan food we could get over our whole stay at Sumatra.Nevertheless bungalows and bathroom is very basic. Perfect for nature lovers who arranges with bathrooms outside.Snorkelling was great too.

Perfect place to unwind. View is great as well as the peace you can feel throughout your whole body. Owner is friendly and interesting to talk to. After 2 days of not being connected to the online world we felt rejuvenated!

We stayed at the sumatra ecolodge for 3 nights and it was an amazing experience, the best for us in Sumatra island.Jungle, beach, this place is a real natural paradise full of life ( monkeys, birds, fishes, turtles...). We shared a lot with the owner Racail who truely does his best for having as little impact as possible on the environnement.For exemple, houses are built with reused material from boat or mosques, electricity is provided by solar pannel and the boat accesses de lodge always by the same path, limiting the impact on the coral reef.Racail speaks english very well. He built this place full of wonderful values by himself. Here you can find a real Ecolodge, simple with the essential and countious of its impact. The food is also really healthy and tasty.Thank you Racail for this wonderful place. Keep it like it, it is perfect for aventurous people. We are thankfull to have met you and staying at your place during our trip.Highly recommend !!

Tempted by the extraordinary reviews from several websites... We ordered directly from the owner. Because as lodging owners too, we understand that if you go through the application there will be a discount. Even though it is more expensive, we chose to order directly from the owner.We came in a group of several families. Appointment at location after lunch. It turns out the owner is still in Bukittinggi and there are no staff at the location..... The owner cannot be contacted. Finally got information from the boat operator that the owner was still on the road. The boat driver will take you to the location..That night the new owner arrived, instead of apologizing for being late, we were greeted with a series of lectures about the plastic cups we brought. 😂 . Little bit Rude rather than educate...Yes, we know it's not good for the environment... However, we didn't get complete information that the boat provided water in gallons. It should also be explained that the inn applies a no plastic policy...In the evening you couldn't order anything from the kitchen because there was no cook. In the morning there was also no breakfast. The owner didn't have any communication while we were at the location... to make matters worse, two of the 4 rooms we ordered had no water......Finally the next morning we decided to check out and still pay for the 2 days according to our booking 😁To be objective; Apart from the owner's experience, this accommodation is highly recommended for those who like adventure, returning to nature and escaping civilization.Great view, unique place, affordable, but don't expect too much for hospitality. Hopefully this is just casuistry.Serious note:Some parts of the accommodation are not safe. Such as slippery stairs, and banisters that are too far for children. Not recommended for families with small children.

Breathtaking place, reachable only by sea...Raquai the owner is super helpful, always ready for your every need! Breakfast with pancakes and coffee, lunch and dinner arrive directly from the village kiosk via boat. Paradise place without connection, if you are looking for relaxation in the midst of nature this is the right place.They organize boat trips, snorkeling, kayaking etc.The swim with the turtles was unforgettable 🐢

Location and atmosphere great. A place for connoisseurs of peace and nature. A quiet private beach, the rhythm of the day determined by the tide and sunrise and sunset, beautiful weather interrupted sometimes by a tropical storm. There are beautiful islands nearby, a coral reef rich in life, and a beautiful waterfall. The food delivered by boat is delivered on request, tasty, fresh and regional. But the houses need renovation, and a thorough one at that. The lack of infrastructure was an advantage of this place for us: running water from a mountain stream supplied to the bathrooms, lighting from solar panels and a periodic lack of internet and coverage gave us the opportunity to take a break from civilization.

Very impressed with the owner's choice of concept...A very unique ecolodge concept with extraordinary comfort in its "naturalness"...All the rooms and infrastructure, you could say, were all handmade by the owner himself... Very exotic...Don't be afraid of overheating even though there is no fan, because the room and surrounding areas are very cool and even tend to get cold at night...The rinse water used is also clear and cold mountain water...There is a tigor 🐶 which is also very cute & adorable... 😊Missing tigors 🐶... 🥰The owner is also very friendly...So, it will be very suitable with natural enthusiasm...Feel like you have nature, private beach and sea...Regret not having more time to stay here... 😢So don't expect signal and internet access here, because this is only for those who really want to enjoy nature without cell phone interference and be alone...Someday I will come back here...It really makes you fail to move on...

If you want have some experience live in the wild, this is a perfect place to put your toe in the sea. The owner is a knowledge guy, very friendly and helpful.Forget your phone, internet, time and stress just enjoy the nature.

Really loved it there. No luxury and no internet. Just my wife and me. And ofcourse the sound of the jungle at the back and the waves in front. Raqai is the owner and very friendly and more then helpfull. Swimming and snorkeling in the amazing underwater world. I will absolutely come again and bring friends or family there.
