We were really excited about staying here and were greeted by charming interiors with loads of character which got us excited for a lovely stay and experience. The room was also very spacious with a separate seating area and tv. However, our sleep was badly affected by the many mosquitoes that were flying around - we had killed around 8-10 in the evening and yet there were some more while we were sleeping. Also, there were a couple of noises that startled us while sleeping - we weren’t sure if it was piping/water/footsteps etcOverall, a promising start but a good night’s sleep is always essential to any stay

Great location near the centre of town. The food was amazing and the room a real Ryokan experience. We had the room with the hot tub and small garden and it was delightful. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful.

The rice was absolutely delicious. It was still cold this spring, and the whole building was a bit cold...It is also the perfect location for sightseeing in Tomonoura.

The inn was a renovated historic wooden townhouse located in a location overlooking the townscape of Tomonoura. This time I stayed in a maisonette-type room on the 1st and 2nd floors, but there are also rooms only on the 1st floor and rooms only on the 2nd floor. The room we stayed in had a kitchen, bedroom, toilet, and bathroom on the first floor, and the Japanese-style room on the second floor had a sofa, TV, refrigerator, etc., so the second floor was our main living space. From the second floor, you could look down on the townscape of Tomonoura, which was very relaxing. This time, we had a breakfast only plan, so we ate dinner somewhere else, but we had breakfast at Auberge Sakuraya near the hotel. It was nice to be able to relax in a private room.

I used it the next day after staying at Dogo Onsen. The old house has been renovated into a modern building with a mix of Japanese and Western styles. It's an old build, so the auto-lock system isn't very strict. The key was also a key.I used a room on the first floor, right next to the entrance. There is a courtyard, but of course there are insects and it's hot seasonally, so I didn't use it much. The bath is made of cypress, and you can see the outside scenery through the glass, allowing you to relax. If you take down the roll screen, it becomes a blindfold, but since it was inside the bath, I was concerned about mold growing there.

My daughter made a reservation for us for a trip to commemorate her 60th birthday. This is a renovated inn in an old private house. It has a great atmosphere, and the indoor bath made of cypress is the best, and you can also use the public bath at a similar hotel nearby! The creative dishes were very delicious and there was a wide variety of alcoholic drinks to choose from, and they even selected alcoholic beverages that matched the food. The staff was very friendly and helpful! I would definitely go back to see Tomonoura under the best conditions.

“Japanese Modern” hotel. An old traditional building renovated in a traditional Japanese style but with modern finishes. This building must have been taken down to the studs, then refitted with modern electric, new plumbing, kitchen, floors, ceilings, everything and its very well done. Perfect craftsmanship. Tasteful details like use of Balmuda appliances and Hinoki wood bathtub. Really amazing work and obviously a labor of love. There are some downsides: 1) low ceiling and door jams. I hit my 183 cm head on door beams at least 5 times in one day. 2) Noise from other guests. Walls are a bit thin. But its not too bad, but noticeable. One disappointment is the cafe and bar. I was denied service because no advance reservation. And was not notified I needed a reservation in advance. The web site is a bit hard to understand regarding the hotel bar and cafe. Staff advised me to buy food at a nearby convenience store, which is disappointing since can eat conbini food anywhere in Japan. At around 7 pm, everything else in Tomo is closed. Staff advised me to go to Fukuyama. Again, not realistic. So perhaps some work in getting F&B sorted. Anyway a lovely and nicely renovated small hotel. Well worth a short stay to enjoy the charms of Tomonoura. Highly recommend or a nice cultural experience in Tomonoura.

The room was very spacious and had a nice atmosphere. Also, I arrived late due to transportation issues, but the staff waited for me despite the cold weather.I'm also satisfied with the food. It became a good memory of Tomonoura.
