Amazing accommodation and the perfect place for up to four people to stay in Kyoto. The whole building had a traditional Japanese feel to it which was perfectly executed with sliding doors, a beautiful garden, all surrounded by exquisite wooden design. The place came equipped with a kitchenette which nevertheless served all our needs. Though the beds were mere mattresses, they were among the comfiest I've ever been in.Moreover, the host was very cordial and helpful, going out of his way to come in person to explain every little facet of the location. Little conveniences such as scattered decorations (literally everywhere), automated toilets, and fast wifi also helped with the overall feel. Easily the best accommodation I've stayed in while in Japan and would 100% recommend.

The real deal - traditional machi-ya (row house), uniquely Japanese living experience. We stayed here for 3 nights. Superb atmosphere. The smell of fresh tatami (rice mats), the view onto an intricate garden, the historic details - combined with modern features like shower and bath (set so the Japanese way can be followed), fully equipped kitchen, own bicycles, location in the middle of all sightseeing spots... and privately owned by very hospitable locals.

Traditional Japanese house we booked via airbnb, over 100 years old. Still has old beam and pully system for well in kitchen. Excellent host with great attention to detail.
