My son and I recently stayed at this Ryokan and we had a great experience. From check-in to check-out, all staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. We also liked the location, as it was steps away from various points of interest.

This is precisely as advertised. A traditional place full of high touch courtesy, but where a Westerner like me feels appropriately lost.||I came with the David Bowie lyrics (see title) in my head. ||And I loved it in every way. I see many reasons to come back

Wonderful rooms. Perfect location in the heart of the Gion. Full of charm. This is a well priced ryokan. My room was perfect in every way. I had one of the rooms with Western beds.  …

My girlfriend and I stayed for 4 nights and it was our first time staying in a Ryokan.Firstly, the staff were all extremely kind and helpful. Certainly some of the nicest hotel staff I’ve seen. As for the hotel itself, the entire building was extremely beautiful, inside and out. The garden was nice and we were fortunate enough to have had a room just by the garden. The room was spacious and beautiful, we had more than enough room for 2 people. Also, the location is PRIME. It’s about a 10 minute walk in either direction of the Gion District (Yashoda Shrine) and the night life and shopping in the other direction across the bridge. Taking a cab would only be around 1,000 Yen.There are also a couple of things to consider too. There is a curfew from 12:00AM to 5:00AM and the breakfast is really just a “snack” and isn’t too fruitful.Nonetheless, I’m giving this hotel a 5/5 as the pros far outweighs the cons. Thanks to the hotel staff for making this our best stay in Japan!

Was expecting dinner with our stay which they do NOT do anymore. Price is insane for not having full meals included (they did have “snacks” for breakfast). Normal beds instead of the floor mats as advertised. Lovely property and the staff were very nice, but felt deceptive. Curfew from midnight to 5am was also very odd and a bit inconvenient for anyone arriving late or who likes to stay out late. Walking distance to Yasaka Shrine and Hanamikoji Street.

First of all, the owner was very friendly and I was very satisfied with the bedding, room size, wooden bathtub, etc. There were a lot of amenities and food provided, and the breakfast was delicious. I think I can recommend this to those who want to simply experience a ryokan.
