Bath experience was serene. Excellent service. Spacious rooms. Their comfy futon bedding gave me the best night's sleep I ever had! Delicious breakfast as well. Short walk to train station. I am a women's size AU 14-16 and the provided yukata fit me well enough (which was unexpected!) so that was really cool too! I want to come back.

My favourite place to stay in Kyoto; family run along traditional lines. If staying in Kyoto, I'd suggest at leadtba couple of nights spent in a Ryokan. It is a fantastic way to get immersed in authentic Japanese culture. The staff are both friendly, and helpful. Also in season their tea room is open, and some days guests are able to.participate in a full on cha-no-yu, with explanations in English. Also there's a top notch restaurant on the far side. Breakfasts are outstanding, with Japanese and as my wife discovered earlier this year, Western style too...... I adore the place; this time our bathroom had a sunken wooden tub; previous time my room had a deep sit in tub, and first time, the room I had had a standard 'Western style tub'; the large 'semi communal bathroom is worth booking; it costs nothing more, but booking is important. Personally, I think it is a wasted opportunity, to visit Japan, but not try a traditional bath....

Authentic Japanese experience in the center of Gion! They have many details with guests and serve you tea in a traditional way as a welcome, in addition to providing a complete guide edited by them to learn more about Kyoto. I loved spending the night there!

Me and my friends had a wonderful experience in this hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful, even when we did some mistakes regarding the Japanese traditions, they were kind and eager to teach us about Japanese culture. They carried our heavy luggage and even helped us make a phone call to translate our foreign driving license. The rooms were really nice and it was fun to experience Japanese traditions like seiza (正座) and sleeping on a futon. We were also able to eat a traditional Japanese breakfast, which we really enjoyed. It was very tasty and the maid that served us was very friendly and impressive the way she works at her age.I will definitely come back to this place if I come back to Kyoto.素晴らしいサービスをありがとうございます

A day worth remembering, that's the trip and stay at Gion Ryokan Yoshi ima. From Kyoto Station, we took Bus number 206. Getting off at the Gion stop, we walked along the road to this Ryokan in the midst of the hot September weather which should have cooled down, because it was autumn. Only 500 meters, but our footsteps felt heavy. Even though our three large suitcases had already stayed overnight at Kyoto Station, we left one small suitcase and four backpacks for the four of us.Arriving at the location, wow what a nice place to visit. Taking off your shoes and changing into beautiful house slippers, register at the reception and then be escorted to your room on the third floor. Wow. We got a quick tour of the room showing the fun areas including the bathroom for soaking. Big and comfortable. After that, we each received a glass of hot tea with light snacks to complete a friendly welcome in the Japanese tradition.Worth the value. My pockets were digging deep for me to enjoy luxury at Gion Yoshi Ima. I can't wait to enjoy her traditional dinner tonight. Hmmmm.

If you are planning on staying in Kyoto, this is a must for anyone interested in experiencing traditional Japanese culture! Stayed here with my girlfriend for 2 nights and we loved it here!To start with, the staff were very welcoming and overall sweet. The people by the front desk spoke english and were able to answer any questions we had. They were a great resource, giving us various phamflips filled with information about the area and the ryokan itself. The rest of the staff is in charge of coming into your rooms and setting up your futons/dining. They were so very sweet and helpful. Ensuring that we were comfortable and well fed.Overall the service was impeccable and very heart-warming!The rooms themselves are designed as ancient Japanese homes with a few modern features like a tv and modern toilet. There was also a working wooden bowl sink and a cool wooden bathtub that had a shower. The layout itself is what you'd expect from a traditional style Japanese home from what we've seen. A nice wooden rustic design with sliding doors and an amazing view of the garden. You sleep on futons, which were bedding they set up on the floor and you eat on a dining table that is also on the floor. The room was overall cozy and was spacious for the two of us. Leading to the rooms there is a beautiful garden area that is perfect for photography and a bathhouse that we didn't use or see but I assume was just as awesome.Overall the rooms were top notch and a great experience 👌The food deserved a whole blurb for itself. They served us breakfast early in the morning around 8am and it featured a variety of foods. They even give you the option to choose between a Western or Japanese style breakfast. We chose Japanese and it was excellent. Freshly made homemade meals with great hot tea to wash it down. Dinner was served around 7-8pm and it was a good decision to purchase. It was a feast of traditional Japanese foods and it was yummy!Lastly is the location. We had no idea how close everything was prior to checking in. You will come to find that the area around is absolutely loaded with all sorts of shops, restaurants and sightseeing locations like temples or shrines. Everywhere we needed to go was within walking distance and the ryokan itself wasn't too far away from the station.Overall, you will find that the location is an excellent tourist destination! To sum it all up, staying here was like staying at a home far away from home and they really did treat us like we were family. Even if you stay only for a night, the experience itself was well worth it!
