There is not much that has not already been said hundreds of times already here. Shiraume is a traditional ryokan on the bank of a small stream that runs through Gion. …

A very traditional ryokan experience. The owner and staff were absolutely wonderful and made us very welcome. Our dinner on the night we arrived was probably our best meal of the trip. The building is 170+ years old and gives insight into how they build in that era.The location is great on a quiet street in an old part town close to many restaurants.Definitely the highlight of our trip.

My wife and I had a fantastic stay at Shiraume. It was by far the highlight of our stay in Japan! Tomoko-san and her staff were very kind, the kaiseki dinner and breakfast were outstanding, not to mention the beauty of the rooms of the ryokan... I strongly recommend it to anyone willing to have a traditional ryokan experience

I've always said that if I owned an accommodation, I would spend the night in every room. Even in the best hotels, there's always something that was overlooked that cheapened the experience.  …
