We just love Meguru house, my family enjoyed every minute of the 5 days at this home. Location is excellent, just steps away from bus stop, grocery store, and a short walk to the Nishiki Market. The home itself is beautiful extremely clean, quiet and comfortable. Only downside is that we have no place to store our suitcase, which was not that big of a deal. We are going back to Japan, and if we are in Koyto this will be our firstchoice for accommodations.

Wow this place is an architectural dream. So well designed and the construction is gorgeous. We almost cancelled our stay because there was a horrible review recently where someone was ranting about mold. Ignore this person. This place is spotless. The sinks and shower and tub area are some kind of amazing concrete but the bad reviewer was saying it is Moldy. It is not. It’s clean as anything I have ever seen. I am so glad we ignored that review and stayed here!!!Pros: two bedroom areas are so nice for privacy. The kitchenette area was perfect for warming food and preparing simple meals. There is a fridge and a freezer! So nice to buy food and frozen treats at the very nearby grocery store! Laundry machine worked wonderfully! The bedding is heaven. Fluffiest duvet I have ever used and I wanted to take it home with me! Great air conditioning. Location is nice and also very quiet. Infloor heating is a nice feature for cold weather. Nice (small) dining area with a table. Would be awesome for playing cards or hanging if two couples rented this place.Cons: there is nowhere to put things. As a guest I like having at least a hook to hang my towel to dry but the style of this place is very minimalist so there are no hooks or shelves. Stayed for 5 nights and wished for a place to put my clothing from the suitable or my purse. It’s a small thing but would be so nice. There is also no railing on the stairs to the upper level. Not a big issue but if you have small children this is not the place for you. My son is 6 and I was concerned about him but we managed with lots of caution. A railing is mandatory where we are from so I was surprised there wasn’t one here.So you can see the pros FAR outweigh the cons…book it!

NOT A PLEASANT STAY FOR US - BATHROOM UNHYGIENIC WITH MOULD STAINS THROUGHOUT.We chose the Meguru house - in photos and as advertised it caught our attention and appeared nice, but at arrival there is poor lighting and the grey/dark interior made it not so practical, but most of all it made unclean surfaces unnoticeable at first glance. Bathroom was not cleaned .. at all, there were black mould stains within sinks, shower and bath tub, we also found a fake-eyelash in the bath tub from previous guest, a cockroach and dust built up throughout the house. We did not use the bathtub as initially desired, and our 6-night stay was somewhat uncomfortable knowing simple cleaning standards were not done.We booked and paid for this stay several months in advance, and unfortunately our plans/itinerary were dependant on this location, so there wasn’t much we could do. We did address this matter to their attention, they agreed the insufficient cleaning and apologised, however still desired we pay the full-price for the unhygienic stay they gave us.For these reason we do not recommend your stay with Kyoto House, especially Meguru house.

Bit of an odd one, I got this for half price the day before I went for a day trip for Kyoto. While the bath was really nice and the beds were comfy the place itself felt quite grey and bland, a bit like I was on a business holiday. If you are into that then you may love it!

Everything was perfect! The house is very nice, very well located in Kyoto. The directions to get there are very clear. The decoration is magnificent: you immediately feel good there. An experience to do if you stay in Kyoto for several days to live a unique experience.

One of the highlights is that the garden that can be seen from the bedroom on the first floor retains the old Kyoto-machiya style, and also has a beautiful green courtyard. The bathroom and other water areas are located in the center, and the light shining through the skylight at the top feels nice, so I recommend taking a bath in the morning.

I had previously stayed at the Ieno House in the same series nearby, and was very satisfied with it, so I decided to stay there on a business trip this time. There were also two bedrooms in a large space, and I was confused as to which one to sleep in. The bath in the center of the room has an excellent design.I was able to work slowly at the large dining table. I was surprised to hear that there was floor heating despite the dirt floor.
