My family of four spent a week at SOMA Residence (“SOMA”) over the 2023 Christmas season. It was our second ski trip to Hakuba and the presence of good ski conditions would have been sufficient to make this a good holiday for the family but the stay at SOMA just made it all so perfect. Where do I start? SOMA’s concierge Ranta and his team provided impeccable service. The door-to-door pick up service, the daily ski shuttles and grocery/restaurant runs made a massive difference to our stay in Hakuba, saving time and made our daily holiday programme go without a hitch. The special Christmas touches created by the concierge team brought a warm Christmas ambience to the house. The best part of SOMA was the house itself. Having driven past numerous holiday homes around the area, SOMA exudes an unassuming aura of Japanese calmness and peacefulness. This century old Japanese home surrounded by a forest of trees was restored to perfection with the old enhanced with modern amenities. The high wooden ceilings coupled with the floor to ceiling glass windows in the living/dining area created an expanse of space atypical of a Japanese home. The floor to ceiling glass panelling from the main living/dining area provided beautiful visuals of snow capped trees and falling snow, we couldn’t have asked for a more calming sight. A unique feature of this home is the ofuro and there was no better way to express our amazement than my daughter’s reaction: she squealed with excitement, “its not tap water, its real onsen water!” We have ear-marked SOMA as one of our favourite places to stay. Hakuba will not be the same without a stay at SOMA.

Our stay at SOMA residence was from the 19th to 24th of December and it had exceeded our expectations in every way! We drove there from Nagano station, we found the location easily accessible, with the added convenience of being within walking distance to nearby convenience stores and restaurants. For those without a car, the Happo Bus terminal was just a 5-minute walk away, to reach other ski resorts. The residence itself was incredibly spacious with a serene and zen-like atmosphere. The fully equipped kitchen and laundry provided added convenience. The two bedrooms, each equipped with a walk-in closet, added to the overall comfort. A notable highlight was the onsen available for personal use whenever needed. Almost forgot to add - heated floors and gas heaters too!During our stay, Ranta served as our Concierge/Butler and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and fruit platter (fruits already half finished in the photo haha), and they even made us a snowman on the 24th! From assisting with restaurant bookings to making sure our stay was enjoyable, so thank you so much Ranta! :)This is our first time in Hakuba - the combination of impressive facilities, attentive service, and a convenient location made our experience unforgettable. We couldn't have asked for more, would love to stay here again!

My family of 5 used this facility for 1 night and 2 days. As it is a renovated old private house, the overall space is spacious, and the interior and facilities are luxurious and fulfilling. The first day was snowy and cold, but the building had floor heating in the living room and washroom, so it was comfortable. Also, the living room was spacious, the bathroom was spacious, and I was able to enjoy the hot spring bath, so it was comfortable. The bedding in the room was clean and I was able to sleep soundly. For those who come for skiing, it is convenient because the slopes are close and there is a washer and dryer in the building.Ski resorts, restaurants, and supermarkets are also nearby, making this an ideal accommodation for families and friends.I would definitely use it again if I have the chance.*The concierge was a good-looking man who treated us kindly and politely, so the whole family was very satisfied with the trip.

This is a renovated old folk house, making it a very modern and luxurious place to stay. It is close to the ski resort and there are places where you can eat on foot. There is a bathroom with a hot spring bath, making it perfect for families and close friends. Tableware and cooking utensils are also available. There is also a place to dry your skis and boots. There is no doubt that the number of foreign users will increase, especially during the winter ski season. This is a highly recommended place to stay if you are staying in Hakuba.
