We stayed for 2 nights for our 20th anniversary.Our room was very cool, the view to the Sato Sea was unforgettable. The sunset was insane. We went for the champagne sunset session and it was spectacular.We met most of the other couples staying at the Museum because you end up dining with them and going to the same galleries. It was mainly older, well off Americans and full on French people.We enjoyed having access to the Museum out of hours. It felt very special.Naoshima is such a vibe. You can do this trip in a casual, affordable way or you can go over the top like staying at Benesse House.The shuttle bus always seemed turn up whenever we needed it, so that the trip a lot more pleasant.

Stayed a few nights here last in Oct.Beautiful location and building.We enjoy the art at hotel and museum, however, the female staff at reception who speaks good English is not so helpful and very rude(depending on her mood)Asked about breakfast and locations but she was like rude with face expression and voice tone. It was like ah again? Or I’m tired don’t ask me face and attitude.Didn’t expect this with such a hotel service.Over all, alright.Should hire good staff with hospitality.

Truly a unique experience; How many times can you say you stayed overnight at a museum hotel that requires you to take a tram car up to your room with sweeping views of the island? Love the fact you get to tour the Benesse Museum after it closes when it’s quiet and devoid of all the other visitors. The staff was super kind and accommodating, and things were fully taken care of. We purchased both dinner and breakfast options, and the food was superb. We luckily had great weather conditions, and the views were amazing. We only wish we stayed an extra night as we island hopped to Teshima. Absolutely worth the price!

I am so happy to be able to stay at a museum designed by Ando. The view of Naoshima that can be seen from the roof of Oval is one of the best.You can only access it if you are staying in the Oval building, so if you are staying in Benesse, this is the place to go.It's a bit strange that the two suites share a balcony, but you can feel happy when you sit on the balcony and quietly look outside.It's extremely difficult to make a reservation, but if you check frequently, you'll occasionally find a spot open, so don't miss out on that timing.

As you climb the monorail, you will be greeted by the oval sky and the reflection of the water.In order to create a sense of unity with nature, the balcony had no wall, and one of the windows was completely opened to create a seamless connection between the balcony and the room, giving the room a sense of openness.I regret that I was distracted by the view and couldn't take pictures of the inside of the room, and that I couldn't stay in the room for too long because there were so many things to see, but I had a very comfortable stay.In addition to the accommodations, I was personally impressed by the fact that the Benesse House shuttle bus driver had a good sense of humor and spoke good English.

You’re paying for exclusivity and the privilege of staying in a beautifully designed hotel. Amenities are lacking. Interiors are uninspired (3 star bathrooms). We stayed 2 nights for around $1000 per night (2 people). You need to book 6 months in advance to get a spot here (bookings open 6months in advance).Only 6 rooms available here, so you feel a world apart from everyone else. You arrive by funicular (basically a horizontal elevator). A truly unique arrival experience. The building itself is impressive. Tadao Ando shows his brilliance with the way the building is oriented and designed (see the photos).Room: 3/5. Beautiful view (we stayed in 406), but standard room. Twin room. Dated furniture. Very dated bathroom (no separate toilet and shower). No separate shower and bathtub. Shower curtains…hello 1990s. Not sure I’ve ever paid $500pp to have shower curtains before…Service and Food: 4/5. Presented very beautifully, but very impersonal service who didn’t have any expertise or interest in the food they were serving. Bell staff also quite impersonal. Our bags were brought to our room by a young gentleman and when we went down to ask for information 30 mins later, the same person asked if we were staying at the hotel…Amenities: 3/5. Lacking. Free DIY laundry, which was useful. Good Thann toiletries. There was a “free gift” of 2 x $5 half-bottles of generic red and white wine. We don’t drink so the staff arranged us a different gift—a $10 candy from the gift store. It was our honeymoon and while we don’t expect free stuff, this was pretty underwhelming. We had previously stayed at Gora Kadan before visiting Benesse House Oval and the difference in hospitality was shocking (though, admittedly Gora Kadan was slightly more expensive).Unique features: you get to visit the Benesse House Museum exhibits at night without the public crowds. Elevates the whole experience. But if you want this privilege, I’d recommend just paying for the museum price, not the oval.Value for money: 2/5. Service quality needs to be improved. Also rooms need to be updated to justify the price.I think other 5 star reviewers try to rationalize the fact they paid for the privilege of staying here.

Because of this hotel/museum closing off the waterside road for bikes, people have to go via the mountain route. With a 11% slope going down the hill is extremely dangerous. For westerners with taller height and weight you will face a situation where the bike breaks almost start to melt.This is a bit of a crazy situation that should be resolved more fairly.

This is my third stay in 10 years.It has been almost 30 years since the hotel was built, but its biggest attractions are the Tadao Ando architecture, which has become more tranquil over time, and the beauty of the Seto Inland Sea overlooking from the hill.I've been there many times to see this view.Room 406, where I stayed this time, was the best as I could see the sunrise from the room.The rooms don't have any new amenities, but they have a classic, cozy feel.When you open the window, you can see the kite flying at eye level and feel the breeze of the Seto Inland Sea, which is very pleasant.There are some reviews saying that there are a lot of insects, but during February and March we had a comfortable stay and didn't encounter any insects.The monorail, which is the means of transportation to the guest room, takes about 10 minutes to call and to travel.When staying at a hotel here, we recommend that you come with the intention of spending a relaxing time without worrying about time.

Since this is a private space for guests, you can only get on a special gondola to get to the oval floor.It's also on a hill with a great view, and there's also a garden with a view, so you can enjoy the starry sky at night and the Seto Inland Sea during the day.If you want to stay at Benesse House, we recommend Oval first.

I had wanted to stay there for a while, and was able to make a reservation two and a half months in advance. There are not many vacancies on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Check in at the museum and travel by monorail. You will feel a sense of excitement as you are in a zone that is only accessible to hotel guests. There is a work in each room. When I went up to the top of the oval in the morning, I was surprised to see a snake on the stairs. The customer service, including the staff who calls the bus and the restaurant staff, is perfect.The view of the Seto Inland Sea from the room was great.

I was able to stay in a very wonderful environment. Staying at a museum is like a dream. Relaxing scenery, buildings, works of art, the rich nature of Setouchi, and delicious food! It's the ultimate luxury!The view of the Seto Inland Sea is spectacular, and the sunsets and sunrises from there are impressive!
