It is said to have been the entrance to a red-light district in the past.

To vindicate my mother-in-law (because I was a little intimidated by the top-ranked comments)This is a great Japanese-style inn (but it is quite old). I noticed that my mother-in-law does not have a computer and I have no idea how she confirmed the reservation. I arrived at Takayama just after nine o'clock in the evening. When my mother-in-law saw the paper in my hand, she took me directly to the room without even looking at it. She also helped me adjust the air conditioning in the room (with heating). The room was very comfortable and well prepared. A good hot water kettle, yukata, towels and quilts are provided. It is spacious enough for one person to live in, and it is very close to the station. However, there is no elevator (you have to carry your luggage upstairs by yourself, I live on the second floor, which is okay).Best night's sleep ever. If I hadn't stopped my mother-in-law before she left, she didn't seem to have any intention of collecting my money TAT. You need to print out the reservation slip in advance (I made the reservation through Lotte), give the money to my mother-in-law, and then show her the amount at the time of reservation. She will bring the change upstairs to you later; I I was still thinking that it was late at night, and I didn’t want to bother my mother-in-law to prepare water, so I planned to wait until tomorrow to take a bath. However, at about ten o’clock, my mother-in-law took the initiative to knock on the door and asked me if I wanted to take a bath. I didn’t take a bath (the water was drained), but normally I am already grateful for a nice hot bath. I was given a cake as a gift when I left the next morning XD.It is recommended not to arrive at the hotel too late, and if there is no one at the door, shout sumimasen loudly a few times. My mother-in-law will come downstairs. It is no problem to make a reservation through Rakuten (message in October 2019)

The proprietress is elderly and seems to have difficulty using IT-based reservation systems such as Rakuten, but although the facility is old, it is kept well-maintained, and the beauty of the hall is carefully decorated with hanging scrolls and fresh flowers. I felt a lot of care.In addition, the garden, which they are proud of, is kept in a very beautiful condition and has been decorated with plants provided by the customers.I felt that this is a genuine form of hospitality.I'm very satisfied.

We enjoyed an excellent service, the host was very kind! The location is perfect, very close to the train station. The breakfast was delicious, we could reserve a private bath and everything was very comfortable. We would definitely recommend staying there.
