My husband and I visited as a present from our son and stayed in room 203, Mai. From the time you make your reservation over the phone, you will be attended to by a foreign employee, but it is okay to speak Japanese. There are 6 rooms, all of which are suites, in a well-maintained old private house. When we made a reservation for dinner, we were asked to go to a nearby Kyoto restaurant, and we had a course for 15,000 yen per person, which was exquisite. I lived in Sakyo Ward during my university days. I used to ride around in cars and motorcycles, but I didn't have this luxury because I used money differently than I do now.

Located in Kamishichiken, this is an inn that has an appearance that can be described as typical of Kyoto. On the day, I was assisted by Nepali staff, and I felt they were very enthusiastic and hospitable.I felt that they were working much harder than the strange Japanese people. The room is clean and the breakfast is of high quality and I am very satisfied.thank you very much.

The people at the front desk were also very kind and nice. The location is Kamishichiken, so it's not a busy place, so it's suitable for people who want to spend a quiet time.I feel like there aren't many restaurants around, so I thought it would be a good idea to finish somewhere and then go back to the hotel.

Amazing room with huge comfortable bed and baths. We had one open air bath and one indoors and both were amazing. Only stayed one night but wish we stayed longer. Location isn't great since it's far from the center and we had issues with finding restaurants that didn't need reservations. So I recommend booking a restaurant reservation ahead of time, or eating at the hotel. Unfortunately for us the hotel didn't have food when we visited on a Wednesday. And lots of places are closed on Wednesdays! So keep that in mind when booking.

I do not recommend you stay here. Here is a detailed review of our one night stay:When we arrived, check-in process was quite smooth and they explained all the features of our room. It was evident right away that this is NOT a ryokan. We booked the room with the private onsen and private Japanese garden and paid $694.00 CAD fees included for one night.Pros:- the staff were eager to please. We had a few requests upon arrival and they were right on top of them.- the ‘onsen’ which was just an outdoor bathtub was quite nice and relaxing.- the room was not bad. Not worth what we paid but not terrible.Cons:- we paid $694CAD for a PRIVATE Japanese ryokan… this was not it. This is a hotel straight up. Our ‘privacy’ was cut out from the PUBLIC garden area. While there was a bamboo screen which you could not see through, this was a far cry from private. This alone is a deal breaker.- all night, we could hear every noise the guests above us made. For a private experience that you pay near $700 CAD for (approx 75000¥), this is unacceptable.- they have an indoor/outdoor bath which is nice when 2 people want to bathe at the same time except for the fact that we found BLACK MOLD in the corners of the inside bathroom. This poses a major health risk.- this place has a cheap attempt to incorporate modern fixtures with traditional Japanese looks. Some of the doors are glass sliding doors, there is a tv, a keurig (ew), and each room has its own AC. The living room AC is good and works great. The bedroom AC took a lot of figuring out. We ended up asking the staff for help and they pointed out that the lowest temperature possible for the unit to function is 23 degrees Celsius. This is not cold enough for a good night sleep. My point is, if you are going to include modern fixtures, do it right. I would have preferred that they keep it traditional.- room also smells and feels very musty and damp all the time. They have a dehumidifier but it doesn’t seem to help.- room was clean but there were scuff marks everywhere and signs of wear everywhere. I’m not sure if this is the look they are going for but Japanese people are known for being clean and caring for their things. This was not a representation of that.- in their guide booklet, most of their recommendations are closed.- some hotel staff are Japanese, some are not. The ones that are not neither speak English well (to be expected) NOR JAPANESE!Recap: DO NOT STAY HERE. This place is barely worth $100CAD per night. This is NOT a ryokan. If you want that, I think you have to completely leave the city. This is NOT PRIVATE. There is some MAJOR FALSE ADVERTISING.

This is no ryokan, just a small house with one room with a garden and every other rooms are just regular "hotel rooms" at tops. Maybe the one room with the garden is worth it, but the others are not. The place is away from everything, super expensive (450 USD a night for a room with windows covered with paper mach), and not even with elevator. Staff is super friendly, but this is a very misguiding advertising. They should only rent the main room with a garden to fulfill what they advertise. Not recommended.

We are satisfied with our stay in this hotel. The hotel is clean, the rooms are huge and beautiful. The staff is helpful and available. However, the price remains high for the hotel's services, its out-of-the-way location and the rustic nature of the hotel (poor soundproofing, noise in the night, TV that turns on by itself)

The rooms were modern in Japanese style and were well-maintained.The location was great as you could walk from the hotel to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in less than 5 minutes.

It was a good experienceIt is easy to stay as a couple as it has a private hot spring bath. Most of the people at the front desk are foreigners, but the customer service is perfect! Increase your likeability!Room 102 had a well on the balcony, so it was a bit scary...you couldn't see to the bottom...There is a 700 yen parking lot for 12 hours about a 2-3 minute walk away, so it's super convenient.
