We stayed at Iizukatei for three nights and I have never felt more honored and respected as a guest anywhere. We were treated so warmly by all the staff who routinely went out of their way to ensure we had not just what we needed, but also what would make our stay more ideal. Routinely, they were proactively prepared with suggestions or items or anything else that would improve our experience, day to day or even minute to minute! We had one full day planned by the staff and guided by an employee of the town hall (hi, Miyuki!) which was the highlight of our trip to Japan. These activities included soba making, visiting a sake + shochu distillery, and a farm to table dinner at a local farmer's house! The other days, the staff confirmed reservations, helped move us around town, and even assisted locally with eating restrictions. Their service was nothing short of superior.Otherwise, the grounds are beautiful, rooms are luxurious feeling, and food delicious. Because of how wonderfully Iizukatei and its staff helped integrate us into the town and its local vendors and activities to experience some of daily life in rural Japan, we plan on visiting here again in the future during a different season to enjoy more of the local goings-ons.

We stayed here for 2 nights to explore the countryside of Japan. The staff is incredibly helpful with planning amazing activities (highly recommended eating at the farmers house and soba noodle workshop!) and we even got a free room upgrade during our stay. Never have we experienced such kindness from staff, amazing amenities, great traditional breakfast, activities and nature all in one place. When we come back to Japan we will 100% visit this place again.

I stay at about 100 inns across the country that are registered as nationally registered tangible cultural properties. As it was difficult to find out about the means of transportation, I asked the tourist information center at JR Ujiie Station and made sure to leave plenty of time beforehand. However, there weren't many buses, so I spent about 2 hours walking around the station to kill time. The bus journey took about an hour, so I ended up dozing off.Unfortunately, it was raining by the time we arrived at the bus stop in Minamimachi, but I was very moved to see the hostess waiting for me with an umbrella.[Residence] 〇〇 Renovation of an old houseI stayed in the ``Bunkokura'' building made of Oya stone, and the interior was very nice and had been renovated into a modern style. The hotel was a 200-year-old building that was renovated using cutting-edge technology. It seems like it opened in 2019, so it's still very new.The air conditioner worked well, and the thick walls blocked out outside noise, making it very quiet and relaxing.[Food] ◎ Enjoy seasonal ingredients with local sakeI received a 500 yen food and drink ticket from the hotel, so I immediately went to a nearby liquor store and bought some canned beer and local sake.I was able to bring my own drinks, so I was happy to be able to choose my favorite drink.Dinner was served on a three-tiered tray wrapped in furoshiki. The Tochigi Wagyu beef steak was the most delicious. At Ninoju, the duck pastrami was very delicious. At Sannoju, the simmered soup and yuba sashimi were delicious. For breakfast, miso soup was served in three tiers.Among them, the beef stew was very delicious. The vegetables were all locally sourced and fresh.I was very impressed by the fact that it was served in a furoshiki-wrapped box, and when I opened it, I was surprised to find that the treats were scattered like a jewelry box, so I was very satisfied with the fun I had looking at it.By the way, since I came to Bato, I was expecting to get horse sashimi, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get it.

An independent hotel in a renovated storehouseI stayed here to watch a race at Motegi Circuit.Even though I arrived late due to traffic during the holidays, I was greeted politely. The bathroom, toilet, and kitchen were very clean and comfortable.I was very impressed that the refrigerator was stocked with local vegetables, fruits, juices, and milk for free. It's like a completely detached house, so you don't have to worry about bringing small children with you.

I stayed there in late March. There are few places other than hotels where you can stay alone, so this is a valuable asset. The facilities are perfect, the building and gardens are wonderful, and the staff are excellent. Next time I would like to stay at the main residence with my family.

I spent 3 nights in the beautiful town of Nakagawa to enjoy a few quiet days in Japan. This hotel was well worth the visit. The facility is a beautiful historical building with modern luxuries, including shower and self-filling bath (control panel). The apartment with the garden view and outdoor seating area was amazing, with a laundry room, kitchenette, and dining room inside the apartment. The staff were professional and helpful. Maylene was kind enough to help organise some local activities as well as transport me around to the local destinations. My recommendation is to email ahead, and the staff would be able to help in organising these.

Warmest hospitality from the team, we booked our place on the wrong date and arrived without a booking, the staff graciously let us change the date with no extra charges. The rooms were beautiful and while it was a historical building, by no means were the amenities old, in fact it had modern furnishing and very well equiped.Highly recommend this place if you want a slow living experience in a quaint and beautiful town.
