We stayed for one night only but we loved the atmosphere! The host is very kind and helped us with a lot of suggestions on gluten free options around the area :) ! The room was big and the shower area was great (clean and comfortable). The building is close to two train stations, which makes it well connected to the main attractions. Since it’s also close to the train platform you can sometimes hear the train passing but it is not annoying at all. Would very much recommend !!

Quirky Hostel. Very nice management. Even though I’m a light sleeper with earplugs the train noise didn’t bother me that much which was a surprise. The stairs are quite steep but the management did help me with my little suitcase. Clean room. I thought that the location was convenient: between the cable car to the herb garden and the cable car to the mountain. Please note that the cable car to the mountains are not in service on Tuesdays but the one to the herb garden does run. There are coin lockers at the station for bags and such.

I found a home away from home.Because of unexpected circumstances I spontaneously changed travel plans and went to Kobe. I arrived exhausted and immediately got comforted by the nice staff. Everybody introduced themselves by name which impressed me.The whole hostel is friendly designed, clean and in the women's dorm the sleep cabins provide just the right amount of privacy. I've slept very well, the train was no problem even though I am sensitive to noises normally. One night there was a concert by Bob, who runs the hostel and other wonderful artists in a Cafe nearby. I met people who came to Guesthouse Maya as guests and have stayed in Kobe since then, now connected through friendship.I honestly have no words for how this experience reached my heart. I could only stay for a short time but when I come back to Japan I want to visit Guesthouse Maya again and enjoy the emotional comforting atmosphere.Kobe is also a great city with beautiful mountains, interesting museums and a lot of sake breweries, delicious bread and coffee.

Great place with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Be aware that there is some noise from the nearby trains. There are high quality ear plugs available in the rooms but if you are a light sleeper then you might want to consider somewhere else

This was my most favorite hostel I have stayed at before. ☺️ You can tell it a was some sort of passion project, and I like the wood style of the whole place. The staff are very welcoming and are able to show you lots of great spots to visit in Kobe if you’ve entered into town and aren’t sure what to do yet. I will definitely come back next time I’m in this city

Loved this nice little place. Excellent location right near the Nada station and bus 92. My private room was larger than expected, great AC, opposite the showers and toilet. Most important the bed was very comfortable! …

Best guest house in Japan. Everything is great from the staff, to the room and the location. I will definitely recommend it come back next time I will be in Kobe.Only point will be how close it is to the railway but the team will provide ear plugs and even without it is not a problem after à while.

Super staff, very good location, near the train station for where it’s easy tho go to Osaka and other cities just for a day. Comfortable and clean, easy to make friends, filing like at home. I really recommend this place. If I ever come back in Kobe it will be definitely there.

Having check-in at 16:00 and check-out at 10:30 is in my opinion a big flaw… especially if you stay only for 1 or 2 nights. Furthermore the steps a extremely steep and there is no elevator. Therefore I would recommend the Homestay only to people who travel light and either stay for a couple of nights or don’t mind the Check-in/out times.Apart from that, the Guest House was very clean and had a good atmosphere. It is definitely a nice place to stay at, however there is some space for improvement

Very nice guest house with cooking facility, books, games and even ukelele, guitar and xylophone.Train sound is not an issue even without using ear plugs. Washing machine and dryer is effective and laundry dries thoroughly. The surrounding is neat and quiet near the local market street. I didn't go to the zoo which is nearby. Hiking Mt Maya 700m is good exercise but tough in the summer heat. Nada onsen is along the market street (Suidosuji) and a good dip after the hike. Try the recommended trails around Ojikoen and Nada.
