Shiraishi Ryokan is a lodge located within the grounds of Ishizuchi Shrine Jōjusha, along the main trail of Mount Ishizuchi. It’s a popular spot for hikers, skiers, and worshippers. The lodge offers meals and has a shop, making it a convenient stop for visitors during the busy hiking seasons and festivals.Tama-chan, a female cat, wandered into the Ishizuchi Shrine grounds in 2015, around the 7th station of Mount Ishizuchi (1,450 meters above sea level). Initially wary of people, Tama-chan avoided contact but was eventually rescued by Shiraishi Ryokan staff during a snowy winter. She gradually warmed up to the ryokan, where she now resides as the beloved “mascot” cat.Over time, Tama-chan became very friendly and now greets visitors, often rolling over and asking for belly rubs. She’s also a social media star, sharing weather and seasonal updates as “Tama Manager,” drawing hikers and worshippers from across Japan who come just to meet her. Tama-chan’s charm brings smiles to everyone she meets, and she’s now an iconic figure at the ryokan.

I used it for climbing Mt. Ishizuchi. The building and rooms were old, like the Showa era, but the rooms were spacious and there were no inconveniences.I had a meal included, and it was luxurious and full of mountain delicacies, so I was satisfied. The employees were kind and the signboard cat, Tama-chan, was fluffy and very cute.

I understand that the place is in a difficult place and everything, but it still seemed expensive for what it was. The ladies were adorable but the food was nothing special, it was run down, and it was quite cold. Which was to be expected, but for the price I expected something more. Next time I would probably stay in the accommodation below that at least has an onsen but I don't think I will return.

It's about a 20-minute walk from the ropeway station, but it's like a dream to be able to take a hot bath and be served a hearty meal on the top of a mountain like this. When I stayed there on a suddenly cold day in early October, they placed a fan heater in my room while I was taking a bath. I'm so grateful. The cat's egg is also cute ♡It was nice that the trailhead was at the back and I could go up right away. If you want to climb Mt. Ishizuchi, I highly recommend this place.

I stayed at Mt. Ishizuchi.Tama-chan the cat is totally cute. It's soothing. The room was on the second floor. The restrooms are shared by both men and women, and there are washrooms on the 1st and 2nd floors. The bath is not a hot spring, but it is warm and helpful. The changing room in the women's bath only has space for two people, and there is only one washing area. Shampoo amenities are included, but you can bring your own if you are particular about it.There is no yukata, only a festival towel. The food is delicious. The rice was especially delicious. The female staff are very polite and kind.
