This time, I took a day trip to a hot spring. As rumored, it's amazing! I'm sorry that I didn't have enough words to say, "Amazing!" I will drop by again.

A once in a lifetime experience, though I definitely plan on coming again! Could not recommend this place enough. Easy to get to from Tokyo via bullet train and then the hotel provides a courtesy shuttle bus to take you to and from the local station.Facility is a very traditional Japanese inn and the views are breathtaking. The inn is in the middle of the mountains and built right over a running river. When you use the hot springs, you get to enjoy the views. It was about 50 degrees Fahrenheit outside for us so bathing in the hot water felt amazing.Traditional futons are set up for you to sleep on after dinner and it was probably the best sleep I've ever had. All the rooms have a river view and you get to fall asleep listening to the sound of nature.Thank you to the staff for the unforgettable experience!

I went there for a day bath. The man's bathing suit had some strings at the end of the towel to tie it, but he opened it right away and had to hold it while taking a bath.Maybe it's just my bad form. So, I would like you to wear shorts and bathing clothes.Kotakakara-no-yu is too lukewarm at 30 degrees Celsius and will catch a cold.

We had a very enjoyable time here, but there are some things that could be improved.First of all, if you expect the experience of a Western spa hotel, you should go elsewhere. This is a very traditional place, meaning you wear traditional Japanese clothing (including shared slippers), sleep on a futon and are served traditional Japanese meals, i.e. fish, miso soup, meat and veggies for breakfast. The location next to the river is beautiful, very peaceful, and the Onsen is a great place of relaxation. Staff is friendly and we really appreciated the shuttle bus service. On the downside, as many people have pointed out here, the place is a bit run down and could use some deep cleaning and renovations, especially the moldy bathrooms. Also, you can’t open the windows because of the stink bugs outside. Installing fly screens would definitely help. There are some buildings that seem to be more or less abandoned and falling apart that kind of spoil the idyllic atmosphere.

An inn along a mountain stream that claims to have the largest open-air bath in Japan. The mixed baths were crowded like a health center, so there was no time to relax. There is no one in the indoor bath, and the water quality is good, so I recommend it. The glass windows were all very dirty and the maintenance inside the building had been neglected, which was disappointing. The rooms in the new building are too old and need renovation.

Honestly speaking, this place is the best overall. I stayed on a Friday night, but I think it was almost fully booked. However, it didn't feel that crowded. About 80% of the customers are foreigners. There are 3 mixed-use large open-air baths that became famous in the movie, and 1 open-air bath for women only. Weakly alkaline with a hydrogen ion index of 7.81. You will enter the large open-air bath wearing bathing clothes, so it may not be suitable for people who are particular about the quality of the spring water. Also, the temperature of the water in the open-air baths is not very high, so going into winter, it might be a bit cold to move between the open-air baths. I think spring and autumn are the best. He seems to sweat a lot in the summer.Let's talk a little bit about the room. When I made the reservation, I specified a corner room, but I was given a ridiculously large room. When you open the front door, there is an entrance, and when you open the sliding sliding door, there is a small room with 10 tatami mats. When you open the sliding sliding door to the right, you will see a 20-tatami inner room, a room with a 4-tatami washstand facing one window, and a corner room facing the other window until you go to the toilet. A 10 tatami vertical passageway? All rooms have tatami flooring. A little luxurious for two couples. It feels spacious enough for a family of 4 to 5 people.I think both dinner and breakfast are very standard meals, but the portions are quite large. When I made the reservation, I applied directly through the website, so I received a half bottle of wine and bath salts as a service. Half a bottle of wine wasn't enough for dinner, so I added another bottle. Don't be too stingy with hot spring inns like this, and sign up for a slightly upgraded course, as you'll be more satisfied with both the room and the food. By the way, the restaurant was called Takeniwa, and each table was separated by a partition, so I was able to relax and enjoy my time without worrying about the surroundings.
