This is a top-notch experiential activity. You can have a valuable experience. You can have the experience of traveling back in time to the world of Japanese folk tales. There are over 10 dishes available, which are simple yet delicious and will fill you up. However, when I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I looked at the thermometer and it was 0 degrees Celsius!!! Measures against the cold are a must. There was a yukata provided, but in winter it might be a good idea to have a jumper above and below the jersey. There is a stove in the room, but I left it on all night. However, in winter, snow accumulates on the gassho-zukuri roof, which gives it a nice atmosphere. The husband and wife are a nice elderly couple who look like something out of a Japanese folk tale. Recommended!!!

A valuable place where you can see Gassho-zukuri architecture. It was smaller and prettier than the house in Shirakawa-go.

Gokayama is located in the southwest of Toyama Prefecture and is one of the areas with the heaviest snowfall in Japan. Houses with large roofs were built to withstand heavy snowfall and productive activities such as sericulture were carried out. Looking at this building from the front, the steep roof looks like hands clasped together in prayer to the sky, so it is called "Gasho-zukuri". No nails were used during construction and the villagers worked together to tie it up with ropes.Gokayama Aigura Gassho Village is a World Heritage Site and is actually inhabited. The second floor of the exhibition hall displays Gassho-zukuri sericulture machinery and tools, daily utensils, handmade models, etc., recreating the lifestyle at that time. In addition, there are panels explaining the production methods of Gokayama Japanese paper and salt, photo panels recording seasonal calendars, etc., and the history and folk customs of Gokayama are displayed in a simple and easy-to-understand manner. In addition, the third floor of the exhibition hall still retains its appearance at that time, and you can see the situation of sericulture at that time.Soot-stained beams, straw ropes and other elements clearly illustrate the internal structure of the historic Gassho-zukuri house.

I stayed for one night. The mother and father at the inn are calm and kind, and their daughter comes to help during the day. Everyone is very kind and always stays with you.We have toothbrushes, yukata towels, and towels. I had a drink for dinner. We have beer and sake.

Great place to visit, much more quiet than Shirakawa with more character. Heavy snow when we went there and the scenery is just speechlessly magnificent.Great hospitality, great food and very special place to stay for a night. Highly recommended.

If you come to Gokayama Ainokura, this is the most important point. It seems that the current Emperor also came here to see it. It is a satisfying place not only to stay but also to sightsee inside. I heard that it is a place where two elderly people can run their business quietly, so they do not accept hectic interviews or rough responses.

The nostalgic atmosphere is wonderful. They prepare tea for you to drink, the mother's friendly atmosphere, and the food (lol) are typical of the Gokayama gassho-zukuri village. We have reserved it for private use, so you can rest assured that we are taking precautions against the coronavirus. The second floor and above are used as a museum, so you can also tour there.I have stayed at other gassho-zukuri villages before, but I recommend this one.
