I visited when the coronavirus was over.We listened to stories about Ryoma Sakamoto and Mr. Oryu, and toured the room, stairs, and bath, imagining what it would have been like back then.I don't know much about Japanese history, but it was very interesting to be able to see historical sites and buildings (reenactments?) from the Meiji Restoration.I also learned that Teradaya-mae used to be a river port in the past, and that the Toba-Fushimi battlefield was nearby, making me realize how profound Kyoto is.

I visited on September 6th, 2024.You can tour the east side of the building for free. There was the Otose Daimyojin Shrine, which is dedicated to Otose, the proprietress of Teradaya who helped many patriots, a statue of Sakamoto Ryoma, and the Nine Martyrs Monument. To enter the building, pay a tour fee (600 yen) at the reception. We toured around the 2nd floor tatami room ``Umenoma'', which was a favorite of Sakamoto Ryoma, the stairs where the dragon ran up, the bathroom, and the room where the ``Teradaya Riot'' occurred. There were also knife wounds. You can purchase merchandise by Ryoma Sakamoto and others next to the reception desk.It is also possible to stay overnight if you make a reservation in advance.
