Back in 2018, it was a lifesaver. We got stranded after the OTA couldnt verified our reservation in one of the hotel in shinjuku. At that time it was night and cold, and we just push our luck to book whatever hotel we could stay and the owner of this hotel helped us properly. The room is small but this is a budget price, and even cheaper than the capsule hotel

It's so far from the airport that I'm completely exhausted....The interior is quite clean. We give you 3 large towels and one small towel, so take them with you.I go there only because of the price. The bathroom was very small so it was uncomfortable to shower.Hot water comes out well. It's far from Shinjuku Station. There is a separate Higashi-Shinjuku Station, but it is close from here.

Although the reviews weren't very good, the location was good in Shin-Okubo, so we believed that it wouldn't be that bad for a Japanese facility, so we stayed there for two consecutive nights with a mother, daughter, and son (high school students). When I checked in and entered the room, water was leaking from the ceiling and the floor was a mess...I informed them of this and was changed to the next room, a triple room of the same rank (separate bathroom and bathtub), where I stayed for one night and went sightseeing the next morning. When I was about to leave, the staff (all staff members were foreigners who could speak Japanese) stopped me and said they had something to talk about, and told me that I couldn't use this room today, so I should move to another room. Since I was about to leave in a hurry, I left my luggage in the room and the staff promised to bring in my luggage after the previous guest in the next room had checked out, so when I went out and returned, the next room was 1 double bed + 1 single bed, which made the room space tight. The room occupied...no TV...the bathroom and toilet are separate, but there is no bathtub, just a shower, and the temperature setting of the water changes all the time...the water gets cold sometimes...the toilet is very hot...the sink next to the toilet has no hot water. Only the faucet...The bath towels were old towels that were used for 3 people and looked like towels from someone else's house...It was the worst. It might be fine for backpackers, but I definitely don't recommend it for sightseeing, especially for Japanese tourists.Although I am not Japanese, I had no complaints about the staff's customer service. That was the only saving grace!

I missed my room check-in due to the time zone difference (I forgot it would be one day forward when we would land there from the US) and I tried to call them ahead of time but surpise the phone number doesnt conviniently work and when I had my buddy who lives in Tokyo call and translate for me, they wouldn't refund me. I got charged the whole thing and had to find another hotel on day one. Expedia couldnt do anything about it. These guys suck, save yourself the trouble and go with someone else.

WARNING BEWARE OF ROOM 5 AND M5!!PLEASE, for the love of god, reconsider staying here. This was by far the worst hostel experience we had in Japan. The day we arrived they let us check in an hour early, which we thought was awesome. The room heavily smelt of bleach, so we left the bedroom window open. We left to go sightseeing for the entire day and came back late at night. It was a cold night, so the heaters had been turned on, enhancing the smell of mould. We were horrified. It’s hard to explain just how damp and mouldy this place smelt! We started really looking at the room and realised the shower had black mould growing in the silicone. From what we could tell, they had plastered the shower in cheap wall paper to hide how run down it truly was. When you poked some parts of the wall paper, it buckled inwards. It was around 11pm at this point, I was having a hard time sleeping, so I went to the service desk, Hoping, praying, they would have another room. The man managing the service desk acted shocked when I told him about the mould. How could you miss it?! I suggested for him to come take a look, so he followed me to the room. The man looked around the shower, pointing out the mould and poking the walls like we had. He tugged at the silicone in the shower and started to pull it up. Looking at the mould behind the silicone was nauseating so I left the bathroom. The man said he could not help us and that we had to wait till 7am to talk to the manager of sophiearth. I closed up the bathroom and we unfortunately had to sleep in that room for the night. Mould is a serious health concern and can make people sick, so I did not sleep well that night. The next morning, I was up well before 7am waiting for the manager. As soon as he arrived, I talked to him about the mould in the hopes to change rooms. We had paid to stay there for a week, so we needed to find a solution. He didn’t even take one look at the room. He knew. He was not at all apologetic, in fact he was not pleased that we were even asking for a new room. The next room he offered had a standard pod bathroom which had no mould. This led me to believe that not every room this guy lets out is as horrible as the two we were offered. Unfortunately, the second room had structural problems. There was a hole in the roof where water was constantly dripping. There was a bucket placed underneath the hole and it was pretty full. I was shocked that this was an option he offered us. We could not stay there listening to the constant dripping, and the room smelt super moist and mouldy. As this was his last solution, we asked if we could stay at another hotel for two days and come back when another room was free. We thought it was fair to ask for a refund for those two days. He was not happy about this, and he raised his voice and said “not possible, not possible”. After a long discussion with quite a large language barrier, he showed us to another room he owned across the road. It was a clean simple room. He said we could stay there if we paid an extra 50,000 yen on top of what we already paid. Although there was a catch, we had to pay the whole sum in cash! We then explained we could not do this without a refund. To our surprise, he was now willing to co-operate and approve us for a refund!?! As this had taken us until lunch time to achieve, we were over it. We couldn’t find another accomodation in the area on such short notice. We heard there was available accomodation on the other side of Tokyo, but we over it, so we paid the man the full amount in cash and took the room across the road. We didn’t have to deal with him for the rest of the trip which was awesome. Terrible customer service! Terrible rooms!! The first room we were shown was room 5 and the second room was M5. So beware!! Yes, the rooms are cheap, but no one should pay to sleep in these conditions. The smell is horrible. Please do not give this man any more money!!!
