Words can’t express how much my partner and I enjoyed our stay at Blodge Lodge, and Wazuka was one of my top highlights from my 3-week Japan trip! The guesthouse is SO lovely, spacious, and clean, with a beautiful view of tea fields from the back patio from the first-floor living area. It has a roomy/tidy living area and kitchen, and also a nice bathtub + washing machine :)The hosts Michael and Ikuko went above & beyond: from their detailed transit instructions to help us get here from Kyoto, picking us up/dropping us off at the bus stop, recommendations for local spots, and Ikuko’s amazing cooking — we loved both her Western and Japanese style breakfasts, and the various teas they brewed for us! It was also helpful to be able to buy tea souvenirs from them on our last day, haha.Blodge Lodge is also walking-distance close to Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms (an English-friendly tea farm that has cool guided tours and other tea experiences; also recommend), Izakaya Kitene (a local restaurant with Japanese/Korean food), as well as a ~20-min walk from Lawson for your convenience store needs. It was super helpful to be able to use the Blodge Lodge e-bikes for traveling a bit farther, particularly with the hilly roads (e.g. Wazuka-cha Cafe/Sky Cafe, DanDan Cafe), and it was a wonderful way to experience the town’s sights. I don’t bike much, but it felt quite easy since there aren’t many cars on the road.We booked via their website for the “long stay” (3 days or longer), which booked us the whole guesthouse. That seems like it would be fun for larger parties or longer than our 3-day stay. Definitely wish we could’ve stayed longer to see more of Wazuka and to enjoy Blodge Lodge more :) Thank you so much to Michael and Ikuko! We'd highly recommend Blodge Lodge for a wonderful stay amongst the tea fields in Wazuka!

What a gem! The Blodgett family is a bundle of joyful hospitality. I cannot imagine a better, warmer immersion into an authentic Japanese countryside experience. We’ve been glowing since we arrived. Pinching ourselves over what a dream we’ve walked into.

If you call ahead a day or two, you can arrange lunch. Lunch there then becomes the centerpiece of my bike ride in the area, and is always lovely.

We stayed only one night and we would’ve liked to stay longer! The house is in a really nice area in the middle of the tea fields. Ikuko, Michael and the kids are extremely pleasant people, we had nice conversations and very much enjoyed their company. Ikuko is also a great cook. We stayed in Japan for three weeks and enjoyed some great food, but the food Ikuko made was the best. It was really fresh with great attention to flavor. We greatly recommend Blodge Lodge!

The Blodge Lodge -A beautiful house in Wazuka tea town, found in the country side of Kyoto, is a great place to stay for those who are interested in japanese culture, especially with its tea culture. Dont get me wrong, all of Japan is beautiful, but the country side is where you see more traditional japanese acitivities, as supposed to just everyday people going to work. The Blodge Lodge room I stayed in was a spacious traditional japanese style room which is perfect if you are trying to immerse yourself in the Japanese culture. I only knew enough japanese to get by so it was really helpful that the family spoke english and helped me throughout my day with questions that I had! They are also knowlegeable in the tea grown and have a great selection of tea that you can taste, which for me, being someone that drinks Japanese tea everyday was perfect! If your interested in staying in the country side of Kyoto, and want to stay in a traditional japanese style room as supposed to the commonly seen western style rooms found in hotels, then I would recommend contacting The Blodge Lodge. Good luck and safe travels!!!

The place is very cozy and clean. Not only that, you will also find a great family filled with stories and inspiration. I highly recommend you to be here, because I'm sure you'll be happy to know them. Michael-san is a great lecturer and Ikuko-san is a professional chef, I get a lot of knowledge and good food from this family. If you are anxious to get new experiences and good facilities, this place is the right choice. :)
