Shibu Onsen Kokuya was a wonderful experience for my wife and I. I can’t recommend it enough for anyone visiting the area. Conveniently located near Snow Monkey Park, Shiga Kogen, and all the Shibu Onsen public Onsen. …

This spot is worth the trip out here. We did 1 night and found it perfect for having some sushi around the corner, booked onsen in the hotel (there are 8) and late night/early morning soaks in our rooms private onsen. I can honestly say that was the most relaxed I’ve been in a long time. The staff is amazing, very professional and accommodating. My wife is a vegetarian and they made a special breakfast just for her with no dashi, vegan sausage, etc.If you are going to the snow monkey park they have a free shuttle that leaves at 9:30AM to take you there and they will store your luggage at the main train station in the area (not Nagano station).

We visited from Canada, and stayed at Kokuya for 2 nights. We mostly used the private open-air onsen in our room, but there are also 8 onsens available in the hotel. Each onsen was beautiful, and you can really smell the natural minerals. The food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast. It was multi-course with fresh fish, wagyu steak, fresh fruit, etc. We were stuffed each day.Lastly, all the staff were very kind and welcoming, constantly going above and beyond. This ryokan was the highlight of our trip to Japan and we highly recommend it!

All indoor baths are clean and atmospheric and can be reserved for private use.We thoroughly enjoyed it. Although it is a historical building, the toilet in the room was new and clean.Going to the bathroom and meals on the first floor is like a dungeon. It's a good idea to take a break as there are signs and water and places to rest. I'm worried because I don't get to meet the staff very often. We took a tuk tuk. I'm very happy that I had a fun experience. Why not ask the staff? This was the only place where hot spring eggs were made right at the door using the hot spring water from the hotel. We recommend you to try it out.The hotel's facilities, staff, and treatment were all excellent. You can also experience an outdoor bath, and the staff will become friendly to you if you ask.

Amazing hotel, amazing rooms, staff went above and beyond. The onsens were great. We preferred the outside “open air” ones and skipped the indoor ones. The hotel is 30 mins walk to the monkey park, 5 mins drive if you have a car.Loved the little town, however it was a little hard to find food at times, so maybe bring some snacks.10/10 would highly recommend.

I had a wonderful stay at the Kokuya Ryokan, there are plenty of private onsen. We stayed during the week and these didn't need to be reserved. The onsen are perfectly warm and clean and each one was a different expirience. We also had our own bath in the room which was a very nice experience. Products such as towels, shampoos, conditioners, cleansers and body milk is also provided. My skin was glowing at the end of the trip. The staff were all very attentive, polite and friendly which I think is what sets the experience apart. The ryokan is clean and well presented with plenty of additional amenities, which didn't take away from the traditional experience.Food was made up of high quality ingredients and lots of local sourced. The flavours were well balanced and more subtle which is perfect for summer dishes.I would highly recommend a visit here and hope to return one day!
