Such an amazing experience! Our train was suspended getting from Narita airport and it took us 6 hours to get to Kyoto meaning we were late for check in. Despite this, they still served us the most amazing traditional dinner, and we were SO grateful after such a long and stressful day. It was very kind. They allowed me to go into the public bath even though I have a tattoo which was so special to experience and I was extremely thankful for that. I didn't think I would get to do that. The breakfast was such a unique experience, as was watching them transfer the room after dinner. As it was my first night ever in Japan, this was such an incredible cultural experience. This is not a typical hotel, and reading through some of the negative reviews, it feels like people are angry for not getting a hotel when they booked a Ryokan.

I recently stayed at Kyoto Ryokan Kinoe, located in the charming Gion neighborhood, and the experience was truly authentic and relaxing. As soon as we arrived, we were asked to remove our shoes at the entrance, a typical custom that adds a touch of tradition to the welcome. The rooms are furnished with tatami mats on the floor, and you sleep on a futon, which has been carefully prepared by the staff. This made the stay even more engaging, allowing us to authentically experience the Japanese lifestyle.Special thanks go to the boy who welcomed us. He was extremely kind and helpful, carefully showing us both the room and the various areas of the ryokan, making us immediately feel at home. The location is perfect for exploring the Gion neighborhood, famous for its traditional atmosphere and geishas. After a day spent exploring the surroundings, it was a pleasure to return to such a peaceful and serene environment.I recommend Kyoto Ryokan Kinoe to anyone who wants an authentic experience in a historic neighborhood of Kyoto.

This was a very beautiful experience for our first stay at a Ryokan. Kinoe offers all the basic and simple features of a Ryokan. The staff was really nice and accommodating and cooked us a lovely dinner. The lady at the reception desk helped us with everything and spoke English really well. Everything was done so smoothly during dinner time and afterwards our futons being prepared. In the room you'll find a wooden chest with tea cups, a pot and fresh green tea leaves. There was also a mini fridge. The room and the private bathroom were clean and all in good condition. In the morning at the latest hour available, we were served a very generous traditional Japanese breakfast. For some it might be quite heavy so I would suggest being up a little early to prepare your appetite. We were aware what a Japanese breakfast consists of so a little research beforehand will save you the surprise of the amount or just ask. Nonetheless it was all prepared very well and tasted good! Location wise perfect, all destination we had to be at were not too far away.Overall I recommend Ryokan Kinoe for those who simply wish to experience a traditional Japanese setting, food and relaxation before you continue your journey in Japan.

It was pretty good, but it was a school trip and everyone's slippers in the room were in another group's room. What's more, even though that group was asleep at the time, this happened. So rather than calling it a hotel, it might be better to stay as a haunted spot, which I like.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTELWe have stayed in Japan for 3 weeks and this was the worst experience by far. When we arrived at the hotel (earlier than the checkin time - we just wanted to drop our bags so we could go exploring) we were greeted in such a horrible, unwelcoming way by a very rude man on reception, absolutely shocking actually, we felt so uncomfortable that we didn’t want to go back. He told us there was no food available for the children so we would need to buy food outside for them but then proceeded to charge us extra the next day for the children. We wanted to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan hence the reason for booking this hotel, the cost for one night was really expensive compared to 5 star hotels so we expected so much more value than what we received. The hotel is old, but not in a unique old way, everything seemed very run down. The room was extremely hot, even with a fan so non of us slept well, check out was at 10am, which is very early compared to the other hotels we stayed at in Japan. Breakfast is served between 7am and 8.30am, by the time you get back to your room, the beds have gone, so basically you need to pack your things and leave there and then as there are only 2 chairs in the room for a family of 4. The only nice experience was that the dinner was lovely, which is served in your room by a very sweet Japanese lady, apart from that there isn’t anything else nice I can say. I hope the owner is reading this so they can arrange customer service training to the man on reception, he really made us feel uncomfortable and by 10.05am he knocked on our door and said we had to leave now! Just shocking, the whole experience. I actually feel so sad our last night in Japan was there, what has been a fantastic holiday ending in such a bad way. I hope this review helps families, I 100% do not recommend you stay here, you will be really disappointed! EXTREMELY overpriced for what you get, a hostel would be more accommodating!

This hotel is right in Gion, excellent location and beautiful small garden kyoto style. Spacious japanese style rooms with sitting area and fridge. Helpful friendly staff. Pricey but may be the holiday week. …
