This is the place to be if you want beach, small city, surfing experience and you happen to be in Tokyo / Japan. The best host, delicious food, very laid back and there's a nice Onsen at walking distance from the place. Just get in touch with the host and arrange to get picked up from the station if you have to (see website). The host is a sushi chef and even took me to the local fish market, amazing! There's a scooter for rent as well, gave me happy Indonesia vibes in Japan. Thanks Ryo!

An unforgettable experience! Ryo and Shu are the most friendly and thoughtful hosts. The accommodation was comfortable and in a beautiful location by the coast and countryside. Ryo is an excellent chef so the food was always a hit! And, as a beginner surfer, they were patient and informative teachers. I could not have chosen a better place to have my first surfing experience- would highly recommend!

This is a beautiful place to unwind and relax in Chiba. If you want to unplug from the daily metropolitan grind and enjoy the ocean and sea breeze then this is the place. Ryo's house is tranquil and will instantly put you at ease. Ryo is a wonderful host and an even better Chef.

Perfect beach-house for surf and healthy food. Owner Ryo will take good care of all your needs!Update (2023):Well whaddya know, I am now his wife. And Ryo is now practising sushi at his little DIY sushi bar. As the wife, I might be bias in my review. But hear me out. I definitely aim to inform.1. The sushi: In the lovely, quiet, starry nights of Chiba, with the far and calming sounds of crashing waves, and the cool, crisp air, I imagined we would be having romantic coastal nights aplenty. Instead, my husband is in the kitchen filleting fish, for 4 to 5 hours each time, possibly till 11pm, because it is his passion. I, the sacrificial lamb, can guarantee you he got them knife skills. But what astonishes me till today is his discerning palate. While we were eating a freshly bought saltwater fish species just the other day, he said, “Ugh, this is farmed.” How could he tell?! What else would his tongue-brain reveal?! Anyway, with his convictions in quality produce, you can be assured he will bring you the best of the natural world from his backyard to the table. Preferably wild and in season, no additives, no pesticides. As for his palate, it really is the bridge between ordinary ingredients and extraordinary flavours, and he is all about the good and simple stuff seasoned masterfully.2. The surf: All you guests can sleep till 9am or 9pm, that’s not a problem. But not me, no. I, the sacrificial lamb once again, am wakened at 5am or 6am when dude wants to check the surf together (he comes prepared with coffee, that helps). So yes, ask him about the conditions when you wake. He will have something to say! Better still, take over from me as the dawn patrol buddy and let me sleep! If the surf isn’t good at nearby Iioka, he got options depending on how the wind blows (surf trips out will cost you a little more though with the petrol). Preferably stay beyond a day or 2 for higher surfing chances. Also as a surf geek, his equipment are usually custom-made. You get to try some quality handmade Japanese longboards, a few of them tailored to the waves of the local break. Ryo is a really good surfer, but teaching doesn’t come intuitively to him and he has not one didactic bone in him. So if you’re a beginner surfer, ask him lots of questions instead to get tips!5 stars for the sushi and surf!No comments about husband material! My loss, your gain!

Wow..great experience. This was my first time surfing outside Tokyo and Uchiyama-San made it such an enjoyable trip. In addition to being a great host, Ryo is a master chef with sushi as one of his finest specialities. I was fortunate enough to attend a sushi party and was amazed by the quality of the ingredients and his skilled craftsmanship.Great location close to the beach. Ryo is also a great surfer and guide. His English is very good…so traveling foreigners do not need to worry about communication issues. He helped me improve my Japanese language skills which was much appreciated. Food and accommodations were splendid. Definitely will come back…I hope we stay friends for a long time!

I have stayed for a week in Ryo's Surf House back in May 2022. I was looking for a place to surf, but had a few specific requirements: (a) Offers airport transfer to/from Narita Airport as well as a transfer to/from the nearest train station (b) Accepts a solo traveler with a reasonable price, (c) Located near a local surf break within a walking distance (d) Rents wetsuits, surfboards, etc all the surf gears. All my requirements were satisfactorily met with a very reasonable price range. Ryo is a lovely person who loves cooking and enjoys having guests from around the world. He's also an excellent longboarder and knows all the good surf locations for both long and short boards according to the wind direction.A local break that's literally outside of the house was always nearly empty. I saw an East Asian Finless Porpoise "Sunameri" (sort of like a finless dolphin) right in front of me when I was in the water. There were a few stingrays but I didn't see any jellyfish. The current wasn't crazy at all, a 3mm wet suits was all I needed. The mood of the house allows guests to mingle in the living room but also have privacy in the individual suites. I met quite a few friendly local surfers and Japanese travelers while I was staying. It was lovely to dine together and share stories. As of June 2022, Japanese government has not opened its border to individual foreign travelers yet. Hopefully the restriction eases in near future so I can bring my Canadian friends along with me. Thank you for your hospitality, Ryo-san!!
