Perfect beach-house for surf and healthy food. Owner Ryo will take good care of all your needs!Update (2023):Well whaddya know, I am now his wife. And Ryo is now practising sushi at his little DIY sushi bar. As the wife, I might be bias in my review. But hear me out. I definitely aim to inform.1. The sushi: In the lovely, quiet, starry nights of Chiba, with the far and calming sounds of crashing waves, and the cool, crisp air, I imagined we would be having romantic coastal nights aplenty. Instead, my husband is in the kitchen filleting fish, for 4 to 5 hours each time, possibly till 11pm, because it is his passion. I, the sacrificial lamb, can guarantee you he got them knife skills. But what astonishes me till today is his discerning palate. While we were eating a freshly bought saltwater fish species just the other day, he said, “Ugh, this is farmed.” How could he tell?! What else would his tongue-brain reveal?! Anyway, with his convictions in quality produce, you can be assured he will bring you the best of the natural world from his backyard to the table. Preferably wild and in season, no additives, no pesticides. As for his palate, it really is the bridge between ordinary ingredients and extraordinary flavours, and he is all about the good and simple stuff seasoned masterfully.2. The surf: All you guests can sleep till 9am or 9pm, that’s not a problem. But not me, no. I, the sacrificial lamb once again, am wakened at 5am or 6am when dude wants to check the surf together (he comes prepared with coffee, that helps). So yes, ask him about the conditions when you wake. He will have something to say! Better still, take over from me as the dawn patrol buddy and let me sleep! If the surf isn’t good at nearby Iioka, he got options depending on how the wind blows (surf trips out will cost you a little more though with the petrol). Preferably stay beyond a day or 2 for higher surfing chances. Also as a surf geek, his equipment are usually custom-made. You get to try some quality handmade Japanese longboards, a few of them tailored to the waves of the local break. Ryo is a really good surfer, but teaching doesn’t come intuitively to him and he has not one didactic bone in him. So if you’re a beginner surfer, ask him lots of questions instead to get tips!5 stars for the sushi and surf!No comments about husband material! My loss, your gain!
