This was an absolutely incredible stay. The room was amazing, food was delicious and the scenery was out of this world. The onsen was also extremely well maintained and extremely relaxing with a view of the mountains. When we arrived, they upgraded us to a room with air conditioning without any extra charge as it was too hot. Not only that, but when we missed our bus to Matsumoto station, one of the staff insisted they drive us there (over 45 minutes away!).If you are going to Matsumoto on your travels I would highly, highly recommend Katsura Ryokan! The price was also extremely reasonable for the experience we got.

From the outside, it looks like a deserted inn. There was a nice hotel right in front of me, so at first I was worried, wondering if I had made a mistake in choosing the inn.The inn building itself is old, but the rooms have been renovated and are comfortable. The service was warm, like it was run by a family, and had a flavor you don't find at big chain hotels. The bath would be full if three people entered, but since there are only a few guest rooms, we were able to relax without feeling crowded. This is what makes a family-run inn so good! It was a refreshing trip for me. Thank you!

(Updated on 2024/4/17)About 10 days before the holiday, I was contacted to cancel my reservation because I had been double booked because the computer at the inn was out of order. Since the reservation system is online, we didn't think it would affect the inn (or rather, individual PCs), but after it was restored, the reservation was canceled because it was the last one. The nearby accommodation that was offered as an alternative was one that remained vacant until the last minute, even on so-called holidays. I think the reality is that accommodation for one person during the holidays was a low priority when choosing accommodations, but if that's the case, then shouldn't single guests on holidays be unable to make reservations in the first place? When I stayed there before, I was left with a good impression of a calm inn, although the room did not have a toilet, but I am very disappointed and uncomfortable.Rokukyoyu is a place where it is difficult to choose a place to stay (not that there aren't any good ones); the more expensive places are too modern and lacking in style, while the cheaper places have home-style large portions of food and large baths. Although the rooms were nice, the rooms were small and old, making it difficult to find a place with a sense of calm and elegance. However, this was my first visit to this inn, which had been popular for many years and I couldn't get a reservation...I found this to be the best. High! The location is reasonably close to the river, and you can hear the sound of the river and the crows at night, and the voices of warblers and other small birds in the morning. The rooms are very spacious and clean (apparently they have been renovated and even the smallest room has become quite spacious). The meals were made with local ingredients and some Western-style dishes, and lived up to the reputation of an inn with delicious food. Although the hot springs are relatively small, the number of rooms is small, and the structure of the entrance (you can see it if you go) means that there is almost no possibility or necessity of sharing with other customers, and as a result, it is essentially a private bath. I think it can be used like this, and the best part is that it's continuous. Also, unlike before, they seem to be accepting solo guests, so I'm thankful for that (recommended courses for nearby hot springs → Stop by and enjoy Reisenji Onsen Public Baths and Unkeiso. Then, check in at Katsura Ryokan early. and relax).

It was a nice break. The inn was nice, the hot springs were open 24 hours a day, and the food was delicious. If I can make a reservation for Rokukyoyu Onsen Katsura Ryokan, I would like to stay with you again.Let's do our best not to lose to Oedo Onsen Monogatari.I want my children to cherish and enjoy the good things about their parents' home.

Although it is certainly an old inn, it was very quiet and I was able to truly relax. The meals were all delicious and mainly consisted of vegetables.I think this is a ryokan that will make you want to come back again. However, it might be a little boring for families with children.
