This was our second time here. We LOVE this place. We haven’t stayed overnight, just dined in. There is a lot of outstanding food in Kyōto but I would say what sets this place apart is the really fun and friendly husband-wife duo working behind the counter (the chef has worked abroad and speaks some English) and also, the breathtaking presentation. Their food is so good and their personalities are so warm that former guests from other towns where they used to operate the same shop travel long distances just to be able to experience it. Also - they like to have fun, tell jokes and chat with customers. Get a beer or sake when you get seated, and join in the conversation at whatever level you can (even just smiles and your photos to tell your story) and you will dream about returning to this place.

We came here on a rainy day after dark when most places were closed. We were greeted with no wait. Reservations recommended (they only sit up to 6) The food was indescribable, with every dish being more creative than the last. The snapper was well seasoned and everything was displayed better than a art piece. We had fresh wasabi and his own home made sauce with the sashimi. Food was super fresh, said that he goes to kyoto fish market every morning to buy the fish for that day. It is a patient slow dinner with just him running the show, but highly recommend coming here. If you are looking for an amazing dinner to make your trip memorable, dont hesitate and come here.

This is the most amazing sushi experience we have ever had. The hosts Satoshi Sasaki and his wife are extremely welcoming and nice to be a guest (and speak English). …

We bumped into Sasaki San’ restaurant by chance on a visit to a temple just nearby. It was already quite late and passed lunch time but he invited us in and made us one of the best sushi-only menu we had on our trip in Japan. Each bite was like tasting heaven. Sasaki San master perfectly (and with humbleness) the art of Japanese cuisine and is happy to share it with you describing with perfection what is in your dish. He and his wife are kind hosts and it was a pleasure to sit at their table. So much that we came back a second time to taste the traditional Japanese dinner, which was unsurprisingly exceptional. This is a great spot out of classic touristic routes - a little gem among the quasi infinity of restaurants in Kyoto. A well kept secret to preserve. Thank you Sasaki San and see you again soon.
