We spent 1 night at Motomiya and it was awesome experience. Hosts are very kind and friendly. They asked us about our food preferences/allergies in advance, and as I am vegetarian, they prepared perfect veggie meal for me. Next morning, it was rainy outside, so hosts offered to drive us to bus stop. Our room was clean and cosy, and in the evening we heard a lot of frogs singing outside, it was magical! We loved it there and highly recommend this guesthouse. Thank you, we are very grateful ❤

This is B&B Japanese style. Our host, Keiko, and her husband provided an excellent stay experience. It was interesting meeting others from Italy and Sweden during our stay. A short distance to the main part of Magomejuku, but right on the Nakasendo trail. If you're hiking it, it's not a problem.Breakfast and dinners were very delicious, and filling. Kindly assistance is rendered if needed without hesitation.

The owner made this place so special - with her amazing dinner cooking. The breakfast was comprised a salad and one fried egg, one cup of coffeee, a glass of orange juice and bread. The accommodation, with shared (down steep stairs) shower (only one of the two was functional) and two toilets (only one with working bidet) had instructions everywhere - what to do, where to pee, there is even a curfew at 11pm! One cannot help but feel as though you are being treated like a child here. There is no convenience store nearby, so drinking water from the basin downstairs will probably be your only option. The room and bed were comfortable and fan provided excellent air conditioning. Dining is laid out at the time you agreed on, so if you are a few minutes late, you will have a cold meal.

Before I went, I sent an e-mail to tell me what time I would arrive, and then turned on the air-conditioning in the reserved room for me (it was over 30 degrees on a weekend). The staff was friendly, and both meals were good. I communicated in simple English.

Keiko-san is a warm and friendly host who has a genuine passion for welcoming patrons to her small but comfortable and well kept guesthouse. She also has a delightful cat who helps say hello to guests. Everything is very clean and the beds (futons) are soft and comfortable. The food is amazing, show-casing traditional Japanese dishes including salted fish, rice, pickles and miso soup. Children are also provided with slightly adjusted meals to suit their less developed palate. A selection of local craft beers are available amongst other more standard drinks.Would not hesitate recommending a stay at Guest House Motomiya. It is well positioned close to Magome and is a great stop for those looking to hike and explore the Nakasendo Trail.

Located conveniently at magome juku. The owner speaks a little English. She takes polaroid photos of all guests which she then pins on a wall and invites u to put a thumbpin on a map of the world to indicate which country you come from. Traditional Japanese dinner is served with alcohol charged separately. A simple breakfast of toast, eggs, salad and coffee is also provided.Expect communal showers and toilet facilities to be shared between guests from 3 rooms. They are very clean though.
