The cost performance of the rooms is good. It was clean and spacious and I was very satisfied. The landlady seemed to have a nice personality and I had a comfortable stay. Breakfast was delicious, although there wasn't much variety.

Must place to stay & to visit Nozawa Onsen in Japan. For non-Japanese, I recommend staying at the new wing. The original lodge is more of a more basic traditional minshuku style. The new wing rooms still have traditional Japanese tatami decor but with a modern feel and comfort. My room had 3 beds in the back room, 2 beds in the middle room and a sofa in the living room. Great for families and staying with friends. There is a private outdoor hot spring and sauna you can reserve and use privately, with an exercise room. A delicious hot buffet Western or Japanese breakfast comes with the rooms. The cafe next door, owned by the lodge, serves coffee, snacks and also gourmet foods. Had a wonderful 5-6 full course Japanese inspired French dinner. You need to reserve ahead for the course dinners. The owners are very well known locally and globally, so no problems in communicating and ask them anything about where to go or what to see. For those who don’t come with your own ski equipment, they run a rental and coffee shop on the mountain. You can leave gear at the mountain. Most convenient because you do need to walk and take an escalator to get to the ski area when staying in the Nozawa Village. The Lodge is very near to anywhere in the Village but the walk to the ski area is a little longer. Also Nozawa is a must in my opinion for skiing in Japan. It has a very traditional Japanese hot spring vibe yet with a global feel you can’t experience at other Japanese ski areas. There are 10+ small local public hot springs you need to experience. Be warned they are very hot but once in, guaranteed to wash away all your physical and spiritual aches pains. The ski area has nice long runs for all kinds of skiers. My favorite ski area in Japan. I lived and skied in the Colorado area for over 20 years.

We found shirakaba very last minute as wanted to extent our stay. And we must say it is a very pleasant surprise to find such quality stay for party of 6. Location is spot on as very walkable to the centre. What we are impressed is the attention to details of the service. Bins clear everyday. Dishes laying in the sink washed. Little accessories ranging from tote bags, robe for onsen to matcha biscuits welcoming us when check in. Breakfast is delicious. Wide ranging and appetising for first thing in the morning. Amazing coffee. Helped us move our massive load of luggage. Family run and nothing is too much trouble. Not on the cheap side (Could be due to our last minute) but a gem helped us enjoy our stay.

It's a nice and cheap accommodation. There is a spacious shower in the room.I think it's a good way to spend your time since you only have to visit the public baths. The outdoor bath is close to Kuma's hand-washing bath, which is a comfortable temperature. You can easily walk to the bar district in the center of Nozawa Onsen. The sauna option is a must!Work up a sweat in the private sauna and get ready while looking out at the view of Nozawa Onsen. The temperature in the sauna is hot enough to make you sweat at first, but it gradually becomes milder so you don't get tired.I think it's because of the quality of the wood.It was perfectly arranged. I can't even get up from the chair lolTo finish off, I took a hot spring bath at Goemonburo and drank delicious water while sitting on a chair in front of a coffee shop...It's too great.I should have entered twice, on the day of arrival and the next day!
