As a family with young kids we have had a great experience! Especially the dinners and breakfasts were an amazing Japanese experience and of highest quality! We also enjoyed the onsen while probably being their youngest guests. The Japanese style room was great. Only the location was a bit far off and there wasn’t anything to do around the hotel. We were told that there’s a bear which makes hiking dangerous.I cannot share any concerns about thefts from other reviews here on Google. We used the safe.

A ryokan in the mountains. At night, the area becomes completely dark.I thought there were few foreign guests, which is unusual for Kyoto.I think it's a good place to spend some time with your family.

It's a wonderful place❗️I don't think it would be possible to build a building with the Kyomachiya style these days. You can enjoy the terrain built on the slope. The food is delicious too❗️I stayed in a Western-style room with an open-air bath, and the view of the greenery from the open-air bath was very soothing.

This hotel is not recommended for everyone to stay in.I booked an expensive private bath online, but when I arrived at the hotel, I found out that it was actually the cheapest room type. The hotel staff member Hiroxx Tetxxxx told me that if I wanted to stay in the upgraded room type I had booked, I would have to pay an extra 32,000 yen. He said he had known about this problem for over a year and had informed many online booking agencies. Essentially, the hotel was welcoming people to book the expensive room types, but then offering them a cheaper one upon arrival. To me, this feels deceptive and has ruined the mood of my romantic Japan trip.In addition, this hotel does not provide dinner. If you don't make a reservation in advance, you won't be able to eat there at all.If you simply want to stay in an ordinary and cheap hotel room, this hotel might be a suitable choice. However, if you are looking for a comfortable and enjoyable journey, I strongly recommend you do not stay at this hotel.Anyway, I still love Japan overall.c

(Additional photos. added in June, 2024; stayed at the hotel in October 2023)Japanese Style Room with Open Air Bath, stayed there for 2 nights.Very frustrated! Requested for a ride at 3:30 p.m. when I made the reservation. Received no confirmation email a few days before check-in. So, I expected everything should have been set-up properly. We were at the Kameoka Station before 3:10 p.m. on the day, waited for more than half an hour and no shuttle bus showed up. We tried to contact the hotel using FB Messenger but received no reply. Felt desperate & tried to call Uber or taxi. Then at around 3:45 p.m. the shuttle bus eventually arrived. The driver did not explain why the bus was late nor give us any apology! He just sort of asked us to 'hurry-up'. I thought maybe some people were late at the previous stop. I understand sometimes there would be some delays. However, what I felt mad was, the driver should notify the hotel staff & someone should email us immediately telling us the bus would be a bit late so as to give us some peace of mind. We did not mind waiting for a bit, but we felt miserable when we were waiting at a place which we were not familiar with & did not know what was going on! So, we arrived at the hotel at around 4:15 p.m., got settled down a bit and then had dinner at 6:30 p.m.. Talking about the check-out time. This hotel has a check-out policy at 10 a.m. instead of 11 a.m. which many hotels at Kyoto have. However, if you need a ride to the Kameoka Station, the last check-out time was around 9:30 a.m. We stayed there for 2 nights. So, we had enough time to enjoy the private open-bath. If you only stay for a night, you can imagine how long you can enjoy it (taking into consideration that you would spend long time having dinner & breakfast...).
