Hot springs are the best. It was a quiet place, with a cute landlady, a fun husband, and three cute cats. I felt so calm and relaxed that I wanted to stay there forever.

This is a quiet inn located in Okuaizu. I had a relaxing time alone. It was 60,000 yen on weekdays with two meals included, but I thought it was a little expensive considering the location. The food made with local ingredients was delicious, and the room along the river had a nice view and was comfortable.

I am a member of the Society for the Protection of Japanese Secret Hot Springs in Okuaizu Nishiyama. It's a bit difficult to reach in the mountains, so you'll need to drive or take a taxi from Tadami Line Takitani Station or Aizu-Yanaizu Station. The building is made of concrete from the early Showa era and has open features, so it looks cool in the summer. Since it is old and spacious, the inside of the building is somewhat dark and does not seem to be maintained or organized. There were only about 10 guest rooms, and there was a separate dining area. The meals were simple but carefully prepared local dishes made with ingredients from Oku-Aizu, not too salty, plenty of seasonal wild vegetables, and the white rice was very delicious. In addition to being rich in protein such as free-range chicken, sweetfish, trout, and herring pickled in Japanese pepper, it's great these days that there are no ready-made dishes. The hot sake we had for dinner was dry and crisp, making for an enjoyable dinner. There are two sources, one with a sulfur smell and a chloride source. Both springs were hot and of good quality. The indoor baths for men and women change at 8pm, and there is only one outdoor bath, but there is a women-only time from 7pm to 9pm, so you can enjoy it as many times as you like. After bathing, you will feel refreshed and very warm. The Tadami Line and scenic spots are dotted nearby, and the building is a bit difficult, but if you don't mind that, this is a hot spring you'll want to visit again and again.
