We spent a few days at Shinji's with friends and we really appreciated the tranquility and beauty of the place as well as the kindness and good meals of our host! I will return there on our next trip to Japan 😀

Shinji was the best host you could hope to have. He is an excellent cook, very polite and friendly. The soba making experience was also very interesting. The rooms were clean, and the housing was very cosy. Recommended

We spent one day and one night. This was a magnificent experience, beyond the location and the building, we want to thanks a lot our hosts that made this experience unforgettable. We loved learning cooking and walking thought the village discovering local plants. Also the food we ate was delicious. To make it simple that was perfect. Definitely recommend to anyone who can do it.

We stayed at Tanekura Inn, a ryokan surrounded by absolutely beautiful views. Dinner was fully vegan and delicious! Request vegan or vegetarian when booking, gluten free is also available for celiacs. There was a nice range of different foods to try and the vegetables are locally grown. The best tempura I've ever had! We learned about the local foods. We opted for the additional noodle making activity which was fun and informative. We got to eat the soba noodles as part of our meal. There's also an option to do a tour of the village with the friendly host, or just have a walk around yourself. We got the train from Takayama which took around 40 minutes and the host arranged a taxi for us which was very reasonable cost.Such a great experience!

A lovely off the beaten path experience. I will admit that I was a bit apprehensive going so outside of my comfort zone but this stay is something I will never forget, one of the highlights of my time in Japan. The vegetable picking + village tour was fun and educational and the soba-making experience was incredibly interactive. The dinner was incredible and you could see and taste the care put into it. The private onsen was so healing and had a stunning view. The locals were also very kind and welcoming. Our wonderful host Shinji-san made our experience the way that it was. He was so considerate and knowledgeable about so many things that I was constantly in awe. The stay was such a breath of fresh air (both literally and figuratively) from the bustling streets of Tokyo and Kyoto. My only regret is I wish I had more time to unwind and stay here longer.

A real life Studio Ghibli experience - enjoyed walking around the village with Shinji-san and trying lots of mountain veggies. The soba-making class was very fun and interactive and we were able to relax at the private onsen afterwards with a beautiful view of the mountain. The homemade food he served was delicious, our favorite was the tempura and soba. Sake was also really good!! Overall, worth the visit to destress and experience the Japanese countryside.
