I stayed with him for three weeks around 1980. I remember that the hostess and landlady were talkative and the service was very good. It's been quite a few years so I don't remember the equipment, but it was common at the time. I remember having a Cherokee drive me to work. The response was definitely good.

It's a cheap place to stay, and it's located in a residential area, so it's quite quiet and relaxing during the day. However, there are only minimal services, and the toilet and bath are shared, and there are no bath towels, tissues, or toiletries in the room. There are two small toilets on the first and second floors, one Japanese-style and one Western-style.In the bathroom changing room, there is only one vintage massage machine, a 100 yen returnable coin locker, and a hair dryer. There was no front desk, and there was only one employee, a landlady in her 60s, so even if I needed something, I didn't know where she was (I ended up having to look for the landlady for a while when I checked out). You can go out freely, but since you don't have a key, you can't lock your room. Instead, there is a coin locker near the entrance, so you can leave your valuables there.I can't really recommend it to people who value the solid facilities and services of a hotel or inn, but I think it's a good place to stay if you want to stay on a budget.By the way, when I stayed there, there was only one other guest, so the entire building was almost completely reserved.

Room without meals: 3,850 yen. Fridge, toilet and bath shared. Please note that credit cards can only be used for amounts starting from 10,000 yen. Breakfast is 1,200 yen, but it's a natto set meal with no meat or fish, so it's better to eat elsewhere.

The landlady and the building have a Showa era feel. I guess she's more of a snack mom than a landlady. It's cheap, quiet, and a hidden gem if you're alone.
