Only redeeming quality is the location. I stayed here a few weeks ago with my partner, on our first day we heard a guest throwing up in the toilet (which are shared). The first two days we stayed here there was loud stomping, slamming doors and talking from other guests at all hours of the night (which continued throughout our stay) which resulted in not great sleep. This was coupled with extremely loud music being played by the staff around 6-7am every morning, and no curtains on the windows. After skipping breakfast the first morning trying to get some much needed sleep, we were then pressured to come the next day to breakfast between the hours of 7-8am by the owner, which is just a tad early for holiday goers.I felt bad and attended one breakfast during our 5 day stay, which I then spent the hours afterwards from 4pm to 4am being violently ill. Which coupled with the lack of noise insulation, meant that I could provide great background noise for the hotel! Then the next morning after a sleepless night just after 8am the staff were banging on our door with the vacuum. On our last day, we also got the pleasure of hearing another guest throwing up, which was a really great ambient experience. This is my first negative review but really felt the need to share, as I felt the high google reviews to be incredibly misleading.Would not recommend unless you’re a deep sleeper who has an incredibly strong stomach!

Modern ski lodge with a traditional Japanese flare. Stayed for 6 nights with an mate and it had everything you could need. New modern bathrooms and super practical tatami mat rooms with a proper mattress. Location is right in the middle of town and right on the slopes. Carlo the manager and his crew keep everything running smooth and help out with all inquires. Carlo offers drop off and pick ups from other resorts and will take groups out on the mountain. Will 100% stay again and bring more friends.

A group of 6 of us stayed here for 8 nights in Jan/Feb this year. Carlo the manager was 10/10 - super knowledgeable of the area and resorts, always happy to help and you can also book him to take you out to a resort for the day and show you the good spots. His staff were awesome - always super friendly and the breakfasts they served were great. Thanks Finn, Connor, Coral, Sienna and Darcy! The hotel itself was really nice! Rooms were great, bathrooms were modern, beds were comfy, onsen was a nice way to end the day, and a drying room for your gear was sweet. Location is perfect too - just off the main street of Akakura where all the restaurants are.Would absolutely stay here again!

We stayed at Akakura Akurien for seven nights. In terms of convenience for skiing, hospitality, facilities and value it is highly recommended. Carlo and his team of young staff made us feel very welcome. They are very proactive. For example, on arrival day, a table had been booked for us at a restaurant so we could just walk 5 minutes up the road and be looked after. The in-house bar is a treat and there is a different hot breakfast every day. Skiing is literally a 300m walk to the nearest lift. We opted for a guided tour to Nozawa with Carlo. Non-stop skiing for 4 hours followed by a walk around the historic town was a highlight. There were many other highlights during the week and of course the powder snow!

Great location and close to all restaurants and easy access to lifts. Staff amazing ….make you feel like you’re at home. Breakfasts are huge and delicious . Concierge service to help us to and from the lodge on arrival and departure was very much appreciated . Onsen baths on site and new shower amenities were great
