The building may have historical value, but if you look behind the scenes, you'll find that many things have been abandoned, and the building has been repeatedly expanded upon. The 1st floor of the main building did not originally exist and the underground part was dug up, which is understandable because the floors of the 1st floor of the annex and the 2nd floor of the main building are the same height. The service as a hotel is below average, probably due to lack of staff. There was no doorman when I arrived, and I didn't notice for 15 minutes that the breakfast and coffee were gone. If you charge high accommodation fees and call yourself a top-notch hotel, you should provide a certain level of service. If you can't do that, you should stop using it as a hotel and turn it into a museum. The building that used to be the hotel is being used as a museum in another location, so it would be great if it could be done that way. Bakeries have sales offices near Nikko, so it would be a good idea to concentrate on bakeries.

Classic hotel with a sense of historyIt's more inconvenient than a new hotel, but when you think about the history of the hotel and the people who stayed there in the past, it's fun to stay in the same place.Participating in a tour of the hotel and listening to the stories will increase your interest in the hotel. The breakfast omelet was perfectly cooked and very delicious. The food at the restaurant was delicious, but I was concerned about the staff's poor service. This may also be a tradition of the Kanaya style.

This hotel is in desperate need of a renovation! It’s 151 years old and it looks it. Some rooms may have been re-done based on other reviews I read but ours certainly wasn’t (room 70 in main building). …

Those who love the Showa era will probably be satisfied, but I was concerned about some inconveniences other than the oldness. The room has a slight musty smell. The bathroom had poor drainage and I had to go to the bathroom soaking wet.It was a stay that I didn't think was suitable for me, who loves retro hotels.

Japan's oldest Western-style classic hotelI was excited from the moment I arrived at the hotel. Dinner was delicious with traditional dishes, but breakfast was served on a classic silver toast rack and the perfect omelet was the best.

Japan's oldest resort hotel. Although it is old, it still has a warm atmosphere, and the spirit of hospitality towards foreigners has been passed down to this day. There were many tours, photos, and exhibits inside the museum, so I was able to relax while learning about the history.

At the top of a steep hill, you will find an elegant building with a rich history that is one of Japan's most representative classic hotels. Each guest room has a history of the stay of a great person, which is very moving. This is especially true of the main building. In the evening, there is a tour of the hotel (free of charge), which will give you a more moving experience than the price of your stay. We highly recommend that you participate. This hotel is a good choice if you want to go to Nikko Toshogu Shrine via Shinbashi Bridge or Rinnoji Temple. There is also a sleeping cat in the hotel of Mr. Kanaya, a vassal of the Tokugawa family. This is a hotel I would like to visit again.[September 2024]
