Winding yet inviting hotel. The rooms are clean and only equipped with the most important things. The staff very friendly and helpful. We skipped breakfast because we were the only guests at the time. The place is very sleepy 😀, but there are nice playgrounds.

Oh well …For greeting “Have you made a reservation” instead of “Good day” or even “Welcome”, for breakfast “Who are you” instead of “Good morning”...That works better and probably sounds louder than intended. The so-called bicycle garage is a concrete room (where do you lean your bike against without scratching it?) with direct access to the street, unfortunately not lockable. The room is mediocre, the bathroom is old-school.The breakfast is modest but ok.Good thing I was only there for one night.

The booking via a large comparison portal went smoothly and the confirmation from the hotel came by email within 20 minutes. When we checked in we were greeted warmly, given a brief explanation of where to find things and how to get to the hotel after reception closed. Everything up to this point was worthy of 5 stars. Unfortunately, things only went downhill after that. The room was equipped with everything you need for an overnight stay. Bed, bathroom, seating, table, TV and wardrobe. The bed was unfortunately very poor, which would be ok if it were in good condition. Unfortunately the lower panel was more than loose and the tacks were exposed. There have also been clearly visible several attempts to repair the whole thing with hot glue, but apparently without success. The bed linen looked clean and fresh, but based on the smell I had to assume that it had been in a closet for a while or that the bed had been made up nicely. The mattresses were perfect for me, far too soft for my wife, but everyone has their own preferences, so I'll just mention this and not include it in the review. The two armchairs were comfortable, although visually badly worn. The TV was modern, functional and, if desired, offers YouTube, Netflix, etc., as long as you connect it to the Internet via a hotspot with your cell phone because there is no/poor WiFi.The WiFi is still acceptable on the ground floor and parts of the first floor, but on our second floor it is practically non-existent.In the room, apart from the 2 bedside lamps, there was only one rather inconveniently placed light source, the purpose of which was only to see enough so as not to trip over something. Plus point, you can also turn the light on and off from the bed.The two windows were double-glazed, but the frames were old, leaky and not really soundproof.During our stay it was 7 degrees cold at night, unfortunately no one told the heating system about this. It was off and the room was correspondingly cold despite the windows being closed. The bathroom was another inconvenience. No working heating, the water was only lukewarm even on the maximum setting and actually too cold for showering. There was a lot of silicone missing, we had to clean the shower head first (photo before cleaning), the shower curtain was long past its best and the dead mosquito that "welcomed" us doesn't speak very much for proper cleaning. The breakfast was also a disappointment. A type of cheese, a type of ham, a strange cheese crust salami, something that was supposed to represent roast beef, was all the cold cuts. Everything is the cheapest of the cheap from Lidl. Baked rolls, unrefrigerated yoghurt and lukewarm orange juice were also just essentials rather than rich. Even the hand-painted smileys on the eggs couldn't improve the bad impression. On a positive note, I would like to mention that the host was super friendly, brought fresh coffee and tea and left our ice packs in the frost in the kitchen overnight. In summary, in my opinion, 91 euros is far too expensive for the offer. For a hotel with the deficiencies mentioned and a poor breakfast, I would be willing to pay €40/45 per night, but no more. We will therefore not visit Hotel Engel again.

We had booked 3 rooms. Very neglected, even disgusting. Breakfast, just the bare essentials.Dog costs 20€/day, which was not explained that way. There were no receipts for the requested cash payment and no invoice at checkout.

We attended the mountain race in Hauenstein and stayed overnight at the Hotel Engel. 2 people, 2 rooms. The staff was very nice, when we checked in (7 p.m.) they gave us tips on where to go for something to eat.Rooms were completely OK.Breakfast was absolutely fine, everything you need for a proper breakfast was there and in sufficient quantities. The coffee was strong, good and a real pick-me-up.The staff, a young lady at breakfast and the gentleman at reception, were very nice and available for a little chat.WiFi with internet was a bit weak but worked. If you look closely, there are one or two defects that didn't bother us.It's an old, small hotel that somehow has its own charm.Overall good 4 stars and recommended.

Worst service I have ever experienced! The hotel manager is unfriendly and disorganized, I've never experienced anything like that! Never again!
