We spent November 22-28, 2013 at this very nice B&B (pension) while visiting family nearby. The room was large and modern with a nice bathroom. It was very clean and quiet. Breakfast was extra fro 8 Euro and consisted of rolls, bread, cheese, lunch meats and ham, boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, juice and tea/coffee. The owner was helpful and friendly. It is located close to a beautiful park and within walking distance to the U Bahn. We would definitely stay there again.

I would like to say I loved this place, especially since it was recommended by my cousin and they had a good experience, BUT, unfortunately, I can’t. It was ok. The owner was nice and somewhat helpful, though he speaks no English... or at least he didn’t even try with us! (Fortunately my German is good and I could speak to him). The room was large and clean-ish. There was no cleaning service on Sunday; we almost ran out of TP; there are no screens on the windows. I don’t think the room was vacuumed the entire week we were there. We were there during a heat wave and there wasn’t even a fan in the room (let alone AC...which I don’t expect much in Europe, but there were fans in all the rooms in England!). There also wasn’t even a kettle in the room!On top of this, I sent an email, very clearly saying we’d like a double room, breakfast (which is extra) and a parking place. We got there, and the owner doesn’t take Credit Cards. He wants payment with an “EC” card or in cash and he doesn’t do breakfast anymore. When he answered my email, he did not mention either of these things! He told us there was a place across the road where we could get breakfast, but all they had was plain rolls and coffee....The location was convenient...about 1/2 an hour from the middle of town by bus and subway. However, if I had to do it again, I’d find somewhere else. His website needs to be updated, as the price for the room was higher than quoted on the website and he needs to remove the breakfast option, too.If you decide to rent from him, make sure you get all the prices up front and whether he’ll take a credit card, and whether he does breakfast, or you, too, could be disappointed!

The frequent traveler (at least one who does not stay at luxury hotels) soon realizes that certain things that one might reasonably expect from standard accommodations, such as a comfortable bed, drip-free plumbing, a light over the bathroom mirror that lets you see yourself, air conditioning and a functioning Wi-Fi are not universally found, and in truth can be pretty rare. The fact that Pension Am Eichtalpark has none of these things, therefore, is no great reason to complain. The host is pleasant and the rooms are generally clean and acceptable and the neighborhood felt safe. The location was a compromise for us, being somewhat close to family that we were visiting, and not too far from central Hamburg. However, if of your goal is to catch the sites of Hamburg, this may not be the place for you. There are no attractions nearby, and a bus and subway trip is required to get into the city. The real problem with Pension Am Eichtalpark is that the host has, either on purpose or through neglect (most likely the later, since he really seems to be more of a hobbyist than a serous innkeeper) provided incorrect information on his website. The site states that one can include breakfast (for an extra fee) and implies that credit cards are accepted. Once you check-in, however, you discover that he no longer serves breakfast (although there is still a nice breakfast room, unused), does not accept credit cards and the rates are 10 euros a night higher than advertised! The only nearby spot for breakfast is a rather bleak convenience store.Plus, unless you speak German, it is not likely that you can even arrange a booking in the first place, let alone manage day-to-day transactions. My wife speaks perfect German, and even then communication was difficult.Particularly problematic was the Wi-Fi service. It worked just a bit early in our stay, but then not at all. When we reported this to our host his response was "Well, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't." To today's connected traveler that's equivalent to saying "Well, sometimes the shower works and sometimes it doesn't." If Wi-Fi is advertised (and we would not stay in a place that did not offer it) then, like any other feature that you are paying for, it must work, and hopefully, work well.It clearly looks like something has changed in this innkeeper's world, and he is not capable of offering the level of service that some reviewers have previously reported. This pension could be really nice again, with the proper attention to details and truthful advertising. Until then we shall seek lodgings elsewhere!

Unfortunately, the rooms weren't really clean and the beds were very shabby. Unfortunately, only cash payment was possible. All in all it was very expensive for a sagging mattress and a not really clean room. The IBIS nearby would have been cheaper including breakfast. Unfortunately not recommended.

I can't understand the negative reviews. We were guests here again and were satisfied again. Our room was very spacious, everything was clean and well maintained. Only the furnishings are a bit old. The price is quite reasonable for Hamburg. All in all recommended.

A small guesthouse, very tidy, very clean. The rooms are bright and friendly, large and nicely furnished. The towels are big and fluffy - I love that! The landlord is easy to reach and open to small special requests. I can only recommend.

Very bad value for money! My mother and her friend stayed there over Pentecost. For a double room without breakfast they paid €90 per night - during their 4 nights there was no room service/no fresh towels - the beds were only made once - the bathroom was cleaned twice - despite the option to pay by credit card, they had to pay them in cash! Unfortunately I cannot recommend this guesthouse at all!!
