This place is fantastic! Never seen anything like it. So quirky. Great atmosphere. Toilet/shower facilities are good. The train carraige cabins are slightly small. Snacks and drinks are available to purchase at reception. A reasonable selection of items available at breakfast. Can't wait to go back and stay again

I stayed here with school and I have to say it was a horrible place to be with such a big group. We (the students) stayed in the train compartments, which were way too small. There was barely any place to put your baggage, and one of the metal racks fell on my head. The temperature regulation was also horrible, at some point it was 34 °C in the train, which was the temperature we had to sleep in. The bed that I slept in was also not that great. I slept on what used to be an old couch in the train, and they kept it pretty much the same. There were weird things poking in my back, and due to the angle the couch was at I could only sleep one one side. There was also only one outlet in the room, and we didn't have a fan though other rooms did. The window was also hard to open, and the we slept with the curtain open because it didn't allow any cool air to go through. And the locks on the door were padlocks, that are apparently very easy to pick. I do have to say that the hall looked really cool, and the caravans must've been nice to sleep in. Just don't sleep in the train compartments and you'll be fine. The breakfast was a bit off though. I had some little bread, which seemed like it was going stale. And my friend had yoghurt, which seemed to be crumby. And since this was a school trip the year before us has also gone, and a friend warned us that he had out of date food with his stay. And the showers were a bit weird. Instead of lockable doors the stalls had curtains, which is weird considering it's a space shared with everyone. The toilets were fine tho. The outside area was cool, though the broken down car might be a safety hazard. Luckily it was very easy to travel to and from Bonn from this place, so that's nice. If you're looking for a cheap place to stay with a small group I would go here, and rent the caravans. But if you have a bigger group go somewhere else, and watch out for the food.

We’d stayed here before, about 10 years ago on another trip. We knew we wanted to come back as a stay at Basecamp is not to be missed or forgotten. The whole theme and setup of the place is quirky, unique and memorable. Our young family love the vibe of it - little caravans dotted about, the train carriage down the side, helicopter on top of the warehouse and colourful artwork all over the place. So cool.We stayed in an airstream, which on our stay were quite popular - with at least three of them being lived in while we were there. The range of caravans and other quirky themed options to stay in is bonkers. But here’s where Basecamp falls down a little in my rating. Whilst staying in our airstream was cool the reality is the inside of the caravan does feel old and past its best. Maybe a little more TLC to the insides of the vans would help a bit. A few more modern customisations in them? A lick of paint maybe? We did remember that last time we felt quite stuffy in the caravan. This time was a little better as there were a couple of very small fans which we used all night long to aid airflow.Remember Basecamp is a stay in a youth hostel. As such breakfast is nice but a simple continental setup. Toilet and shower facilities are shared and on first impressions seem clean enough. However, I did notice quite a few dusty old cobwebs in the toilets - maybe a sign that cleaning isn’t as thorough as you’d hope?Staff are friendly and helpful. Good for us that they speak English as our German is limited.Overall it’s a cool place to visit, even if you only do it once. It’s very safe, fascinating for kids and adults alike, and well worth the money.

Really cool concept, clean facilities and room. We accidentally booked in the train, which I do not recommend. It's way too small and doesn't have any blinds - so you're able to see right in. Next time we'll make sure to book a caravan instead. Staff was nice and it was a decent breakfast! Will definitely book here again if we're ever close by.

A review from a couple staying in the new Canadian House outside (both 20yr old students):Base camp is a lovely place to stay. All of the caravans inside look super cool and I’d love to stay in one of them in the future. It is super different to any hostel but also a very nice atmosphere. There is places to hang out and shared bathrooms/showers inside, and a designated breakfast area upstairs that overlooks everything- it’s lovely to eat breakfast there. The breakfast is great. It has different options for milk, different cereals, bread, cheese, vegan butter and dairy butter, eggs (boiled), apple and orange juice and then some basic tea and coffee - however you can pay for some actual dispensed coffee and it’s quite cheap. They also (if you ask in advance) get gluten free bread! And on top of that it was delicious and they didn’t charge extra so they were lovely.Staff were always happy to help and this made it even better! They were super friendly and spoke very good English. We can’t thank you enough! We stayed in the Canadian house outside and it was lovely. A very small little home to live in for a few days that had its own toilet and shower. It was very well secured and we couldn’t hear any traffic despite being right next to the main road!Only issue is the hot water runs out so be careful washing dishes as the water goes freezing in the shower if you use it all up! Also, a few things were needed in there that would make it better such as tea towels, actual forks, knives and spoons and cutting knives for certain meals! They weren’t provided so we did the best with what we could and I’m sure if we asked they would have helped but we weren’t there for very long (so maybe something to add). Other then that we’d definitely stay there again and recommend it.It is also based about a 10 minute walk from the train station (which you can literally cross the road and follow the path down to it) and then 10 minutes to the tram which is on the path right outside if you follow it. This is super ideal to use the tram to go into Bonn and the train to go into Cologne (remember, don’t forget to validate your tickets!!)Lovely stay, would come again and stay in another accom to try it out!

I can highly recommend this place to stay! It's a wagon/van camping in a huge closed area, with no cold, no wind, no preparation, no noise, etc. 🤓 just choose the option you like and get in... one of my dreams was traveling in a wagon cabinet, so I stayed in a single-bed couchette 😅 not exactly same but so similar experience. Besides the nice atmosphere, the staffs are so kind, helpful and friendly! The only drawback is that toilets and baths are separate and shared.

We (family with a teen boy) loved this place and have visited on two separate occasions. We had two different caravans, first had the Zen theme, the second stay we had the seventies theme ( a lot of orange). …
