My wife and I hiked the Rennsteig trail through this area and stayed in seven different hotels and Pensions. This was the best overall. Clean, nice room though not fancy, fantastic breakfast buffet with a huge variety of choices. …

We were only guests for a weekend and will definitely come back. The hotel is located in the middle of the forest, ideal for hikers and nature lovers. Absolute peace and quiet to relax. The rooms are very clean and nicely furnished. Breakfast is very plentiful and leaves nothing to be desired. Conclusion: the friendly staff makes you feel like you are part of the family.

We were guests in a holiday apartment for a few days. This was wonderfully large and spacious. Especially the bathroom. You immediately felt comfortable. The beds were excellent. The mattresses were nice and straight. It was good that we had prepared something. There were no spices, tea, etc. (yet?). However, you are already very spoiled. Many holiday apartments are now fully equipped with accessories and simple consumables. The staff was friendly. The prices for breakfast and dinner were really reasonable. We just didn't like the fact that it was so difficult for guests of the holiday apartments to get into the main building. You first have to ring the bell and hope that someone opens it.The location of the hotel is fantastic. It is wonderfully quiet and in the middle of nature.

We were here for a class reunion and it was great. The service in the evening was perfect, the service was very friendly throughout the evening without letting up. Thank you again for that. Some of the food on offer was okay. Unfortunately, the healthy eating trend has not yet caught on. There was salad, but unfortunately it wasn't "fresh". Bean salad, the carrot salad made from boiled carrots and the lettuce leaves served as a base for the plate...The opening times are not very friendly and there is no possibility to buy a little something, for example a coffee... etc.And the saddest thing for me was the handling of the room bill.We paid exactly as much for 2 people in a double room for 2 nights as a gentleman in our group who booked a little later; he was alone and only had breakfast. I was given the explanation that he had received the offer and accepted it. The fact that we were a group was shrugged off and my question as to whether an accommodation would be possible as a gesture of goodwill remained unanswered.I think that this is not how to treat guests. But positively I would like to mention the cleanliness of the rooms, thanks to the housekeeping.

Good half-board offer in the hotel restaurant. Versatile breakfast buffet. Bright, friendly breakfast room. Attentive service staff.

As locals, we planned to stop there at around 1 p.m. today, July 28th, 2024, as part of a hike from Finsterbergen to Spießberghaus. Previously, an attempt to inquire about the opening times by telephone - as recommended via the hotel's homepage - failed. Contrary to expectations, we and other hikers found themselves in front of closed doors. The notice on a board that it is open every day from 5 p.m. has led to amusement and angry reactions. The much-praised Thuringian hospitality could not be found here. We definitely won't be coming back! Have a good life. Recommendation: Write on your board “Due to wealth, only open at times that suit us”.Without kind regards

We just came home from Rock am Rennsteig. Like every year, we stayed at the Spiessberghaus and were thrilled as always! It's great to find such nice employees. We were once again looked after in a friendly manner. A very big thank you from Gera. The holiday home was perfect for 6 people. The rooms are spacious and super clean. Thank you for the great weekend!! Until next year!
