Excellent stay and a great dinner at Altes Backhaus. It is good to see Cafe Kern live on in the great tradition of the past. The families and veterans of service at Herzo Base (1946-2001 will know this location well for its close association with the American community.

the owner/manager was kind and really helpful, even with our last minute booking, he's come to help.|the establishment was nice and clean.|the location is fine, the inner city's within walking distance, and bus stops are nearby so you can travel without a problem.

Nice, what I would call a traditional German restaurant (not necessarily the food but the atmosphere). Good bier! Good food! Good service! (Efficient like in Germany but they don't seem to be angry with you like in some places). You can manage well with English or limited Herman, so if you're a foreigner you it should still be great in my experience.

"no wait" must be a joke. I went here twice last year- once with my partner and then with a group. Both occasions we waited over 45 mins for food. 2nd time we even made a reservation, then arrived there to stand at the bar and wait till they emptied a table for us.They seemed severely understaffed, the waiteresses looked inexperienced and clearly didn't know what to do, and talking to the floor manager didn't help at all. The food was quite good, but not worth the waiting time at all. Wouldn't go back, wouldn't recommend.

I came with a coworker on a weeknight for dinner, and it was pretty empty. It looked like they had a lot of tables that were reserved, so they seated us in the back corner.The service was good, we were never waiting for long to get refills or the bill.I ordered the steak, which I think was from Argentina. I ordered medium rare and definitely got a medium. It was a pretty good steak, not as good as Kleine Welt's, but still good for the price you pay.I ordered two little bottles of Mumm's wines. They were alright.

As an english speaker, it's always nice to find a place to eat when in a foreign country that can communicate in English. Atmosphere is great, food is great. Only down side is lack of variety with pizza options.
