It was a prison, we had ant problems, it was a fight and we lost

Better than expected but still pretty crappy, when you move in you are instructed about how to use electricity and that you are not allowed to have extension cables, we had 2 extension cables, a water cooker and a sandwich maker in there at the same time and everything was great. Food is rubbish, breakfast is relatively good but the rest is no. Instant noodles and sandwiches were staple foods.It was good that Hörnum was only about a 20-minute walk from Zucchini because the Edeka there was sufficientNot much better than any other jhb so it fits

This is ideal for a school trip that doesn't cost much. The staff is very friendly, uncomplicated and flexible. Of course it's not a luxury hotel, but the old building has a lot of charm. The outdoor area is huge and offers many opportunities to play. The long hallways are a bit too loud. All activities can be reached quickly on foot or by bus.

We were on a school trip with three classes at the Five-City Home. So, the surroundings were very nice, there was a playground and also basketball and soccer fields. The food wasn't that good, my sausage tasted a bit like plastic, and you could also see a few hairs. My main problem with the kitchen, however, was that one of our students, who is gluten intolerant, vomited even though we made it clear several times that he couldn't eat gluten. He then cooked himself pasta in the care room where the stove was broken (we found another solution). About the rooms: Well, we were in the east wing of the old building on the first and second floors. The rooms downstairs were relatively large, but there was no trash can there. The mattresses were a bit dirty, you could see one or two red stains. When we arrived we found a plastic bottle stuck behind a bed. Everyone had their own cupboard, which you could lock with a padlock you brought with you. On the first floor it was actually exactly the same, except that the rooms were much smaller and there were only 3 closets. There were also no curtains in a window with a skylight, which was very blinding at night because there was a lighthouse a few kilometers away. There were shared showers and toilets on both floors, the showers without privacy screens. Oh yes, at the beginning it was said that kettles were forbidden because then the power lines would be overloaded and you couldn't find the fuse. Well, the sub-distributions were right in the hallway, so theoretically I could put my fuse back in myself. There was also a table tennis room, a billiards room and some group rooms.I would maybe work a little more on the hygiene of the rooms and the food. I was still able to enjoy the school trip.

The 5-city home is run with a lot of love and heart.The rooms are clean and functionally furnished, they are not luxurious. The group rooms have lockable cupboards, loft beds and a sink each. There are showers and toilets in the corridors, only the carer or family rooms have their own showers and toilets. Due to the good weather, we hardly used any of the many indoor options available.The area offers plenty of space for younger teenagers or even older children. In just a few minutes you can be on the beautiful and clean east beach or on the slightly busier west beach. Bicycles would be great for the carers for small shopping in Hörnum. If the building is fully occupied, eating in the cafeteria can be stressful due to the structural situation and the associated poor sound insulation. A simple solution is to talk to the other carers and ensure peace of mind yourself. The office takes a lot of planning of transfers and activities away from you. If you formulate very precisely when and what you want and then listen carefully to what is possible and what is not, you can save yourself a lot of frustration.When you go to the 5-City Home, you should definitely take a look at the "Officers' Casino" and always keep in mind: it is a former barracks that has been used as a youth hostel for decades.You can find corners everywhere where you can retreat, the management regularly offers activities for everyone (e.g. black light table tennis, children's disco) and has no influence on the weather or the emotional state of the guests.

Like every year, we were there with our entire 7th and 8th year class (Goethe School Flensburg / Gymnasium) and were, as always, very satisfied. Regardless of the size of the hostel/the number of students, all of the employees at the Five-City Home do their best, which is something you can only take your hat off to. It's also nice to see that many improvements have been made here this year by the new home management - keep it up! You can go to Sylt with students for the price (= don't expect a posh hostel for that, but exactly what you find) forThere is no better place to stay in this location, with the good food and all the leisure activities on site. We would be happy to come back and thank you again for our lovely stay. The weather also cooperated with us - nothing more was possible.

We went on a school trip to the 5-City Home with our 8th graders and will definitely be coming back. The management and staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Various activities are also offered every evening: cinema, black light table tennis and disco. The food leaves nothing to be desired. Although around 500 people have to be fed every day, every allergy or intolerance is catered for.I can't understand negative reviews. They also have to be classified correctly. Students who misbehave have to live with the consequences. We thank you for a great time! The location with everything on offer is unbeatable for the price.

Contrary to what many reviews say, it is really pleasant there. Unfortunately there are only two sockets in the rooms and you are not allowed to use distributors, but the beds and the rooms themselves are really okay. The service there is also fine. Always looked forward to the joke of the day and the toilets are clean too. They are cleaned every day by a friendly cleaner (at least for us girls). The food was good too. It was tasty and filling, even though you had to go back to the kitchen for more during dinner because the portions for the tables were always quite small. The location could also be better. There is access to the beach on both sides, but the nearest Edeka is about 20-30 minutes away. All in all, a good youth hostel. But here for those who are going there and still have to pack: You are not allowed to use hairdryers, straighteners, chargers that are too powerful, distribution sockets, sandwich makers and kettles. So just don't even pack it!
