If you check into the Mercure in Trier you should definitely treat yourself to a Privilege Room with a view of the Porta Nigra. Priceless view of the city's landmark, large room and drinks and snacks included. We stayed in the room when the weather was great and just enjoyed the view. Absolutely brilliant.Otherwise, the hotel is of course no longer the newest but all in all a real recommendation if you want a nice view and a solid room. Beds were comfortable, bathroom tidy and the staff friendly. The television is also up to date with the latest digital technology. Parking at the hotel costs 17 euros per night. We didn't have breakfast, which was unfortunately too expensive at 22 euros on site.

My visit there was due to a multi-day seminar in this hotel. Since I have already taken part in several seminars, I can easily compare the different hotels and have to say that my stay in this hotel was very disappointing. The fact that this hotel is already quite old is completely fine. You can see that many areas have already been renovated. The elevators are outdated and therefore very slow. It's acceptable... However, it's very annoying when you want to go to the parking garage and have to change to the elevator on the right. The cleanliness, well, I would like to differentiate between the 1st floor (restaurant and seminar room) and hotel rooms. The first floor was always clean, no matter what time, whether breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack breaks. There was just no cleaning of the seminar room at the end of the day. But that's not that serious. Things were different in the hotel room. Cobwebs hanging here and there on the ceiling or wall gave the impression that a feather duster had not been used for a long time - a shame. The bathroom had not been cleaned carefully, there was apparently something left behind behind the door, there was smudged lint stuck to the tiles above the bathtub and the faucet at the sink was still decorated with the previous toothbrush leftovers from below. Apart from the cleanliness, I found the room and facilities to be completely fine. The selection at the buffet, whether breakfast or lunch, was okay and appetizing. The only problem was availability when there were several guests there. With menu dishes that had to be selected in advance and served at the table, the service and hospitality left a lot to be desired. The first incident, on the first day, I thought I had misperceived it. But I, as well as other seminar participants, observed the same behavior on the following days: plates were visibly and deliberately thrown there. I found this behavior very frightening. On another day, the employee who was serving us overheard fragments of our conversation at the table, which is inevitable in his work... I can understand that much and understand that. But if you completely misinterpret fragments and present them in a completely different way, if you unfairly address the guest(s) inappropriately, then something goes wrong. At this point it was a fact for me that I would never use this hotel again! As for the rest of the staff, it seems that there is only one employee in the restaurant area who is there with heart and friends. No one else exuded joy in their work/activities; on the contrary, they made faces and seemed annoyed, which suggests that something is going wrong internally and the working atmosphere is bad. It's a shame when you have such experiences as a guest. You won't see me in this hotel again and I won't recommend it to anyone.

Very good location, public parking at the hotel, nice breakfast.Unfortunately, the rooms are outdated, and the rooms need to be renovated/renewed very urgently. Cleaning could be a lot better, hair on the carpet, water edge in the bath, drain stinks, curtains with black stains, mold in the joints of the bathroom. No longer worth 4 stars.

The location of the hotel is really perfect, right opposite the Porta Nigra as the perfect starting point to explore the city or to attend professional appointments in the city. …
